Advantages: It is on all summer long!

Disadvantages: Has to end sometime

I will hold my hands up and say that i am a devoted Big Brother fan and have been so since the first show 10 years ago. Analysing people and learning about the psychi of people thrown together in a house for almost 3 months, is fascinating.

Big Brother throws a group of people together without any contact to the outside world and they live in a purpose built house and are given tasks to do to earn food. Often deprived of some of lifes luxuries, such as hot water, big food budget, television, books and music, they have to earn through the tasks they are given. If house rules are broken, contestants are punished by yet more deprivation, or by being sent to a make shift jail in the garden. Each week, the housemates nominate 2 people to be evicted, which includes providing a good reason for doing so. The two people with the most votes are up for eviction at the end of each week.

Big Brother airs every night during the time the housemates are holed up. Each Friday, is the all important eviction show. Outside the house there is a gathering of banner waving big brother fans who are baying for blood and more often than not, they happily boo the evictee who then goes on for a chat with Davina McCall and a dressing down about their behaviour in the house.

The show films the ups and downs of the lives of the housemates and the changes in their behaviour when living 24/7 with people they cannot abide, or just would not entertain in the outside world.

The show has become quite stale over the years, and i understand that the 2010 show will be the last. I will miss it, because i love to see how people can quickly go from one extreme to the other when placed in a situation long term that is out of their normality.
