Disadvantages: its finishing
A big modern and stylish house, add 10 members of the public, mix in a concept which includes tasks, cameras and a TV programme and what do you get? BIG BROTHER!! The Nation has been gripped once more as the second series comes to a close this week. Last year, the Big Brother house saw many favourites including the cheeky scouser Craig who finally won the prise of £70,000, Anna the ex-nun, now lesbian who was my favourite and also Mel who got a job with a women’s magazine after being evicted from the big brother house. Big Brother has become a global epidemic and there’s no sign of it waning! Ø The Concept ============= Basically how Big Brother occurred was from Dutch programme also by the same name which placed 10 public people into a house and are kept away from the out side world. The group are set various tasks to occupy their time as well as gambling their food money by betting a certain percentage on completing the task successfully. After spending their first 2 weeks in the house, the big brother contestants are asked to nominate 2 people they would like to leave the house. The two or more people who have the majority of votes are then put up for eviction and are told a few days later. The public then has the choice to phone up and decide who to evict and phone up for whom they want to see leave the big brother house. As each week this eviction and nominations occur, the group in the house gradually declines until there are only a few left and in the final week, the remaining contestants are all put to the public (the viewer) to vote who they want to win. Like I said earlier, Craig Phillips won last year but who win this time round? Ø Big Brother 1 =============== These were the first set of contestants in this record-breaking show. This is the order by which they left the big brother house. 1.Sada – The Yoga Queen who was really boring 2.Andy – The love interest
to Melanie, he was also boring 3.Nichola – A wacky artist type lady with a baldhead! 4. Nic – Known as Nasty Nick, he was the bad apple of the group who got chucked out of the bigbrother house and was replaced by Claire 5. Caroline – Also known as Caggy. A mad bright and colourful woman who was the oldest out of the group she was up for nomination many times and finally got evicted. 6.Claire was brought in to replace Nick and got on extremely well with Craig. 7.Tom – He was the Irish guy who after Andy left, took a bigger interest in Mel 8.Mel – Love interest to Andy and then Tom was quite a nice girl to look at and was quite intelligent. 9.Darren – Father of 2, Darren was a dab hand with virtual doll Juanita he was an ok guy but I prefered Mel myself, I wonder why……….. 10.Anna – The Ex Nun now turn lesbian, Anna was my favourite out of the group, she was funny and caring and brought the best out of people. 11.Craig – Craig was the final member to leave and I have to give it to him, he gave all the money to charity to help a down-syndrome friend of the family Ø The outcome to Big Brother 1? =============================== There were many thing which came out of Big Brother which included Nasty Nick who made £70,000 anyway, Craig who got a job on a DIY show and also released a Christmas single (At this time of year), Mel got a job with Marie Claire and Nichola and Caggy made arses of themselves at celeb doo’s as well as being flops with their music releases. What I found out recently which I found a shock was the anouncment that Tom and Claire of all people were expecting their first baby! This was a shock as they had shown hardly any interest ion each other before! But what the debut of Big Brother on UK shores showed was that it was a sure fire success and it was bound to come back with lashings
of more spice. Ø What came next? ================= And come back it did. As well as having a single release and also an album release, Big brother also spawned an Unseen video and a Celebrity version on Big Brother which included the likes of Vanessa Feltz, Anthea Turner, Keith Duffy the winner Jack Dee and Finally my fave Claire Sweeny who has since decided not to renew her brookside contract and concentrate on other things such as presenting her own show and also singing which she showed she certainly could do! After this show came the best one since it started, yes Big Brother 2!!! Ø Big Brother 2 =============== The concept was the same but the people were definitely different! Here’s a rundown of the contestants. Penny – An English teacher. A mad woman basically who was constantly in the kitchen. The 33 year old was a very hyper woman in the house, she flirted quite a bit with Paul and was very insecure about herself. Stuart – A married with kids 36 year old who only seemed interested in getting the best tan and starting arguments with the other housemates especially Amma and Penny. Josh – Josh was the man voted into the big brother house by the nations viewers, he was chosen instead of other contenders Natasha and Anne who in my view Nat would have been a better choice. Josh is a 30 something gay guy who works in retail. Narinder – One of my faves of the bunch and let me emphasise ‘My’ as I know many hated her for being out spoken and rude. Narinder is married to husband Jatinder and was a great laugh especially in the company of accomplice Brian. A former Bollywood star, 28 year old Narinder spiced up the house during her stay. Amma – A 22 year old table dancer who confessed that she had only recently told her extremely religious mother what she does for a living. Amma had a huge argument with Stuart which was explosive v
iewing but also showed a more vulnerable side to her than previously shown. Amma did have a tendency to burp and fart a lot and I have heard that they are releasing a dance single which will include these samples out very soon. No only joking but I wouldn’t put it past them! Dean – Dean is a good-for-his-age 37 year old who is dating fiancée Vanessa and I’m my view has basically been boring but on the other hand has added a bit of sanity into the house. Elizabeth – Also known as Betty, a bit prudish but like dean, the 26 year old who is dating a millionaire OAP (sorry that’s nasty) adds sanity once more and a mother figure into the house. Liz can on times be a laugh especially when she considered sex to be ‘A heightened form of communication with someone!’ Bubble – Real Name Paul, 24 year old Bubble was a right old geezer who has a little girl Briony. Bubble was a rather crude character and on occasions he along with Brian brought a lot of humour into the house. On other times though, I found Bubble to be irritating especially when he first entered the Big Brother house as he would often go too far and again would stir and cause arguments such as the argument between Naz and Helen. Not my cup of tea on the whole though. Paul – Paul Clarke as he was often refered to by Helen is a very vain man. He would often admire himself in the mirror and avoided eviction a massive 4 times only to go last week. Him and Helen got very close as the show progressed only to be separated at the point when things were going to happen. Paul was boring throughout the show but it was good viewing when he and Helen were together, as the weeks went by though, a change in Paul was rather evident, he became more and more big headed which I think resulted in his final eviction against Helen who only had 18% of the votes!. Brian – My favourite throughout the show, Brian was odds on fave to
win Big Brother he is a 23 gay guy who is very like Graham Norton in humour. He with Narinder brought a lot of humour to the house and with out those to, the show would have been very dull. When Naz left though, there was a gradual decline in Brian’s behaviour, he became less comical and turned rather quiet give or take a few ‘Evil Demons’ here and there. As the Cabin Crew Supervisor’s humour began to dwindle, I think so did his popularity, now Helen, my joint favourite is odds on to win. Helen – Also known as Hilda, the Welsh 22 year old is so full of life, when she first entered the house, I as well as all the other viewers thought she wouldn’t last but here she is odds on to win and I hope she does! She deserves it! Helen has also added quite a bit of humour into the house but most of the time the humour is not intended. Helen is rather childlike in nature and also sometimes in intelligence but I love her to bits. She takes everything as it comes and she doesn’t let things get her down, even being nominated 3 times! She set a good example to the rest of the housemates. Helen who was seeing on off boyfriend ‘Big G’ or Gavin, became romantically entwined with Paul. The two as the weeks went on became more and more inseparable and it was interesting to see where the romance went. Sadly, their love was not to be as they ended up head to head with each other for the last eviction in which Helen became victor gaining only 18% to Paul’s 82%! Ø The Evictions =============== Here’s the list in order of who was evicted. 1st = Penny 2nd = Staurt 3rd = Narinder 4th = Bubble 5TH = Amma 6TH = Josh 7TH = Paul My Predictions 8th = Dean 9th = Elizabeth 10th = Brian 11th = Helen #Well how wrong could I be! All my predictions were wrong! Heres the actual results. 8th = Elizabeth 9th = Dean 10th = Hele
n 11th = Brian I did say though that Brian had been my favourite though-out and I am happy he has won although I wish Helen had too but she did take the news very well. Ø The Highlights ================ There are many things that have been great to watch, here’s a list of some of the best. *The Amma vs Stuart slanging match *Josh’s Entrance *The Girls in the Tub *The Task with Paddy *Narinder’s interview *The mini Soap *All eviction results *Paul and Helens relationship *The final show! That’s just some of the great things that have come out of this, the second Big Brother. Have we found any new stars? Well maybe in Brian, he could have his own talk show like Graham Norton and imagine the Helen show!!! Ø What has the Show done for the Big Brother contestants so far? ============================================== ====== Well so far, Narinder has landed the job of being a radio host on a manchester radio station but vows to become a big star! Brian and Helen have been offered many things but it has been Helen who has been the big celeb to come out of all this, she has boosted sales on the Sun newspaper when usually they decrease at this time of year and se has been offered many different things including a spot in Lorraine Kelly's new Sky one show. All the other contestants seems to have disappeared apart from the odd premier here and there but I'll keep you lot posted of their movements! :) Ø Where can or could you have watched the shows? =========================================== Big brother was shown on Channel 4 at various times, the Internet website http://www.bigbrother.terra.com hosted live video feeds that included cam 1 and 2 as well as the fan cam and audio feed. The picture quality leads a lot to be desired though. Also the digital channel E4 showed this programme though-out the time everyday
in fact and showed the live events about 18 hours a day. E4’s package also included Little Brother which was hosted by Dermot O’Leary. If you wanted updates, there was also a text messaging service which would give you up to date info. Ø My Verdict ============ I myself found this show very entertaining and am rather sad that it is coming to a close. The second series, in my view, was a lot more entertaining than the other although some of last years contestants were good also. As I have predicted above, I think that as long as things don’t change dramatically within the next day or so, that Helen will walk away the winner (sadly, she didn't). Make sure you tune in to see who will win (Brian did). In my eyes, they all, each and every one of them are winners because they have made this sequel so-to-say a much better show than I had ever imagined.
