Advantages: has it's moments....
Disadvantages: bit too boring in comparison to last year
Big Brother 3 was promised to be bigger and better than ever before...but have they actually succeded? Although a few slight changes have been made, the format for the show has been pretty simlar to the previous 2 - thank goodness they kept Davina!! Basically, for those of you who obviously don't have a TV and therefore can be forgiven for knowing nothing about Big Brother, 12 people (6 girls, 6 boys) and put in a house, isolated from the rest of the world. they have no TV and no books (they are not allowed to communicate in secret). They are set challenges and tasks and are allocated a certain amount of money for food etc. If there is a special occasion, like a birthday or they do well in a task, they receive a treat such as lots of wine. The changes this year were there are 12 house mates instead of 10, there were unexpected evictions at the beginning and the 'punishments' for failing tasks are becoming more and more extreme. Now in it's 3rd year, the Big Brother production team, must be beginning to struggle to come up with new ideas. Much of their inspiration has come from the foreign versions of the show - e.g. the rich house/poor house idea. But it is boring - somehow, the people who made it fun have been evicted! For example, Alison - she was loud and bubbly and generally great fun and she made Big Brother worth watching...despite the presence of the boring Spencer. Apart from Adele's revelationg earlier in the program, there has really been no exciting gossip. Spencer and kate are getting it on - but there is no Helen-Paul-are-they-aren't-they situation. Same goes for PJ and Jade, although that seems to be just flirting...but some bookie somewhere paid out a few grand because apparantly they had sex - but no-one really knows. But watching live sex (or it's inference) does not appeal to me - tuning in each week to find out how a 'relation' is going is interesting. there is also so
much bitchiness in the house - and that's is to do with possible relationships with the boys and it just doesn't make good television...if only the girls (and the boys) could see themselves! Having said all that Sandy's escape was fantastic! But i was sad to see the back of him as I thought he was a really good character. I don't think they should bring anyone else in now...they'll probably just be another Josh to disrupt things. Sunita was boring - I knew she wouldn't last from the moment she arrived in the house and I'm glad she went, but I have still to decide if I like Sophie, her replacement. All in all, I am disappointed with Big Brother 3, but I do appreciate that it is impossible to tell how it will work because the house mates don't know each other. I think Big Brother tried too hard to select the housemates and it has back fired - there is too much romance, too much bitchiness and some house mates are too different that they just can't cope! But I would hate to be on there myself.....
