Disadvantages: Can be an addictive watch, If Jade wins

Big Brother has been back on our screens for a couple of weeks now. Evictions, back stabbing, nominations, arguments, laughs, love and much more has occurred since this show started and there is a lot more action to come.

This is the third Big Brother, so far, to hit British television and already it’s better than the last. But what’s the attraction? Why does this show have thousands of people glued to the TV every week? After all its only a group of people living in a house so why? Well you’ve seen Survivor and programmes such as Pop Stars, Pop Idol and The Real World and if you think about it there all on the same track. A group of people picked out from the general public and filmed for television. These people are like you and me. They’re not famous (yet) and really they’re no one special. You may have even walked past them in the street and you will have shown no interest in them then so why now?

People like you and me watch things like this because it’s interesting. For some reason we like to watch other people like our selves, not in the voyeur sense, but in the sense that we just like to watch. I suppose it’s slightly nosy. People are just interested in people and that’s that. I don’t really believe that people watch Big Brother to see whose sleeping with who and who is fighting with whom. If that was the case why not buy a pornographic version of Rambo or Rocky. Exactly because we just like to watch.

Anyway Big Brother has been so addictive for me and already it’s nearly the end. The people who have been in the house so far are Sunita, Allison, Lynne, Adele, Jade, Kate, Sophie, Tim, Alex, PJ, Lee, Spencer, Johnny and Sandy. All we have left now is PJ, Tim, Alex, Johnny, Adele, Jade and Kate.
We saw Sophie leave last and before that, my favourite, Spencer went (gutted). So who’s next?
Hopefully gobby, back stabbing, two-faced Jade will go next. If you watc
h Big Brother then you may probably agree. Also I don’t like the new boy Tim so hopefully he might go instead. At the moment I want Johnny to win.

If you don’t watch Big Brother then you don’t know what you’re missing. But if you are unfortunate not to have then I will do a short summary for you.

Well basically you have a purpose built house with a garden, a chicken coup, a whirlpool, and general garden items, plants and vegetables. In the house you have a kitchen, shower, toilets, basic washing facilities, two dorm rooms, an eating area and a lounge area and no TV. Oh and you have the diary room were you can talk to BB. So you have this house with big walls and fences surrounding it and you put a group of people that don’t know each other at all into the house.
Most of the “housemates” come with there own personal time bomb that starts ticking the minute they walk into the house and if we the viewers are lucky this bomb detonates into a whirlpool of arguing and near violence. Any way basically the aim of the game is for the housemates to nominate people for eviction every week. Those people with the most nominations are then up for eviction. The public then votes for whom they want out and that person goes. This happens every week until there are three people left. At this stage the public vote for the person they want out and then when there are only 2 people left the public have to vote for the person that they want to win. The winner gets a useful £70000.

So that’s the game of Big Brother. That’s the game that boosts TV ratings sky-high every year. Thousands of people tune in to watch other people getting on with every day life.
I love it! There is nothing like a nightly hour with your favourite housemates.
Oh and if you are a true BB fan then Johnny has to win.

I was having a discussion the other evening with our children, each of whom has watched the programs occasionally.

They reckon that a better mix of people is required and 'nominated' me for the program. A 'miserable old git' like me would soon upset the lot with my sarcasm and bring out any potential axe-murderer out of their shell.

However Heather was not amused by the image conjured up of me being chased around by a guy (or gal) with a large sword raised.

I don't watch it, but as I predicted in my revciew during BB1, (you mark my words) - It will not be long before a mad axe murderer is recruited into a future BB. Someone like that guy just released from hospital less than 3 years from slicing up a few church-goers witha samuri sword. As soon as the ratings decline, it will happen .... Soon it will be "The Year of the Sex Olympics" ....
