Advantages: Compulsive viewing at the moment, Davina is great
Disadvantages: Deadly dull at the beginning
I’ve watched all three series of Big Brother – not always avidly, but catching all the evening TV shows that I could. Big Brother 3 started off like an absolute damp squib for me – a houseful of mostly egocentric, too-young, too-noisy kids. Most of them seemed more concerned by what shape people’s eyebrows were than either getting down to doing some cooking or washing, or, indeed, providing us viewers with any real entertainment. Even Sandy, who I can’t say fell into this category, was decidedly not entertaining, sat on his own, flicking through a magazine, if you were lucky. In those evenings in the first week I gave up and just watched the weekly programme with the psychologists. I kept on watching, but things didn’t really get any more interesting until the rich / poor divide was introduced. The main problem was not so much the housemates themselves (though I still found most of them dull as dishwater) as the fact that they were not given any tasks that took them more than about half an hour to carry out. Another problem was that they were given too much alcohol, presumably in an attempt to get them to do stupid things. Yawn. Which is why the rich / poor divide was such a great idea. A bit of hardship, an excellent reason to perform well in tasks (possibly even cheat), it’s all made for a much more exciting time. The introduction of new boy Tim during this time was also an interesting development. Plunge a rich Tory in such a situation and let’s see the fun… Yes, of course there has been the love interest (but Lee and Sophie as a couple didn’t interest me one bit), but it’s the fights that I’m watching for. Alex vs. Jonny, Jade vs. anyone, Tim vs. Sophie – people behaving badly makes for great TV. Conclusion: Deadly dull for the first 3 weeks, but now Big Brother 3 has become far more interesting than either of the first
2 series. My predictions: Jade is surely going to be voted out of the house, and from then on the real competition begins. All the obvious losers and waste-of-space housemates have already been evicted, and the borderline losers (Tim and Adele) are likely, in my opinion, to follow hot on Jade’s heels. I’d like Kate to win. There’s something about her personality that rings true, and she’s probably the only housemate I’d really want to meet in real life. Second: Alex Third: Jonny Forth: PJ But everything’s so volatile in there – who knows?

- 04/07/02 Adele out, Jade in! Keep up the bitchiness, that's what keeps me watching! |

- 04/07/02 It's Adele I want out, I want to keep Jade in because the possibility that she will repeat her "Am I minging?" shrieks is too good to risk! |
