Advantages: Fun, musical, teaches about cooking

Disadvantages: Can be a bit annoying!

I first saw Big Cook Little Cook on CBeebies few months back. The programme is 18 minutes long and is aimed at pre-school age however, my son is only 13 months and enjoys all the singing and colours.

The programme features Big Cook Ben and Little Cook Small. Ben is the size of an adult however, Small is shown as being only a few inches tall and stands on the kitchen work surface.

The pair of them work in a cafe and have visitors who they need to cook for. Each episode a visitor will arrive (so far have seen a fireman, a robot and the 3 little pigs!) and they will look in their recipe book to decide what to make them.

They then go through all the ingredients they need before Small flies off on a wooden spoon to see how an ingredient is made (ice cream/toffee etc)
Once Small is back, they start to cook. They use a timer when something needs to go in the oven and cut to it being cooked and ready to eat.

Ben and Small then sing a song about cleaning up, showing us how important it is. They then wave goodbye.

This programme used to really irritate me but it's harmless fun and I'm sure once my son is older he will get more from it, even if he just shows an interest in cooking.

Summary: The kids love it
