Under normal circumstances you would think that a comedy by Laurence Marks and Maurice Gran would be very funny. They were after all responsible for The New statesman in which Alan B'stard was played by Rick Mayall. The character of B'stard was in the recent Top 100 poll of favourite characters. I would have been very surprised to find any of the characters in Birds Of A Feather in that list. This was a programme I absolutely loathed. Birds Of A Feather is a British sitcom following the lives of sisters Tracey Stubbs and Sharon Theodopolopodos. In the very first episode their husbands are arrested and sentenced to 12 years apiece for their parts in an armed robbery. Tracey and Darryl have a very tight relationship and are besotted by one another so their enforced separation is devastating for them both, on the other hand sister Sharon and her husband Chris are not overly concerned about not seeing much of each other for the next decade! Birds of a Feather is a sitcom whose main characters are two sisters and their rather vampish next door neighbour. It stars Pauline Quirk as one of the sisters who are from Essex. For an ll female comedy it is not bad but it is nowgere near as good as shows like Ab Fab which also had a lead female cast. The real comedy comes from the neighbour Dorian who is a slightly older character but a real man eater and her sexual preferences provide most of the jibes for the two sisters.
