Advantages: Our Graham

Disadvantages: Some of the strange fok on it

Clearly nobody wants to admit to watching Blind Date, this would be mean admitting to the fact that you had nothing better to do in the 90's on a Saturday night...oh dear. But for those of you who really did have that bad a life and had to face turning on ITV on a Saturday night you were in for a real treat when you heard that legendary theme tune.

"Du Du ... Du Du...Du Du Du Du Duuuuuuu.....etc. etc." I am sure you remember it and then out would pop Cilla in a multitude of interesting jackets and matching skirts and don't deny you thought she looked kind of ok. And who can forget her use of "our" in front of every contestants name?

So the contestants ranged from the slightly deluded to the scary insane but hey we loved them all the same. From strippers to police officers and from professional scuba divers to fishermen, oh they were all there. And of course the lovely lady would turn up with questions ready to go, in what had to be the shortest dress she had available.

Questions included "If I were a princess trapped in a tower, how would you save me?" or the more concerning "If I were an animal, I would be a llhama what animal would you be and why?" But the question I was always asking myself at the time was whether the contestants had their answers ready prepared because they tended to give rather humourous, witty and often suggestive remarks back....I think they knew the questions before.

And who can forget "Our Graham" who was always on hand to help in making the right choice. He was such a mystery man...I think I would have choose him to go on a date with. He would use the references from the contestants answers to create a brief overview of themselves like "Number One thinks he's hot and spicy, rather like he that dragon he wants to slay to save you."

So..... the decision has been made and to rub salt in the wounds, the unlucky losers get to see what they were missing out on or the person gets to find out if they have picked wrongly. The big reveal was always my favourite bit because no matter whether they hugged each other or kissed, their eyes always gave the game away. "oh no!" was usually their expression. And to make matters worse we would have to have a fight over who would pick the envelope to choose their date destination. "no you"...."No NO please you choose"..."Ladies first." etc. etc. Bad luck to those people who got a trip to Brighton and Blackpool when others got to go to more exotic locations.

The following week the couple would return hand in hand or at other sides of the sofa. Often they had fallen out on the first night and not spoken for the week and the personal interviews always showed their true feelings.

There have been a few long term relationships and Cilla got to buy a hat for four weddings. But it is debatable whether falling in love really should be a game show but hey all to their own I guess

Summary: Love, rows and cilla black...what a show !!!
