Advantages: super format

Disadvantages: dated

Come back Blind Date! I was shocked and emotional when this got ditched and televison has never really been the same since. Those saturday nights spent huddled up on the sofa with a take-away, watching a new set of people each week make fools of themselves. Oh! The memories!

The Concept:

Each week three men would sit behind a screen, while on the opposite side sat a lady. The lady would ask the men three questions, posing the same question to each man. At the end of her questions, she would choose which man she would like to pick as her blind date. The process was then reversed with one man picking from three ladies behind the screen. All this time, Cilla Black would be on hand making chatty comments and keeping the show ticking along. When the couple met, they would pick a destination for their date from a choice of envelopes. The following week, we would get a mini report from the couple to see how they got along.

Examples Of Questions On The Show:

'If you were a flower what would you be and why?'
'I like to ride bikes, what do you ride for fun?'

Presentation:

The lovely Cilla always brough charisma and charm to the show. Each week, unveiling a new outfit and her wonderful golden locks. Cilla's manner was effortless and she always seemed to be having a blast, making fun of the show-offs and coaxing the shyer ones along a bit. Plus we had voice-over man Graeme with his quick reminder.

Theme Music:

The theme was stunning, a brassy, parpy loud and joyous tune which was so darned upbeat. It actually got made into a dance single!

The Future:

The show bowed out after running for over ten years, so it was perhaps time to call it a day, though there is nothing to stop it coming back now. If Cilla wasn't keen to return, we could possibly have Andi Peters or maybe even Julian Clary hosting it. There are too many singing programmes on saturday nights and there is definitely room for this show on our screens again.

Summary: wonderful
