I hope you’ve all been watching this show properly. What do you mean what am I on about? Let me elucidate. Blind Date is best watched (or rather not watched, as I will explain) by turning the television around so you can’t see the screen. That way you can pretend to be the contestant and find out which person you would have got if you had been on. Listen to the simpering answers, make your choice, and turn the TV back around. Then prepare to breathe a sigh of relief that you WEREN’T on, as you’d have picked some kind of horse.
Anyway, the program itself. It might not be intellectually stimulating, it might have an extremely annoying presenter, the contestants might love themselves (even the ugly ones – which is odd), but it’s still entertaining. Come on, who doesn’t raise a smile when it turns out the bloke read all of the wrong signals on the weekend away and got punched? Who doesn’t chuckle in evil glee when the person doing the choosing looks crestfallen when they pick the least attractive contestant?
I know I do.
It’s one of those shows that doesn’t take much attention to watch either, which means you can get ready to go out and have a few beers whilst it’s on in the background. All you need to do is glance at the contestants (if you’re not playing along), and then you can turn away and do something else while they give their inane answers.
The fact that it’s still pulling in the ratings must say something for it. As a piece of light, humorous, and undemanding entertainment, you can’t beat Blind Date.
