Now if you answered, “ The mother-in-law” shame on you! No the correct answer is the tongue of the largest animal ever to have lived, the blue whale. This is just one fact given in the opening moments of the blue planet series along with the fact that their tail is a similar span than a small plane and that some of their blood vessels are large enough for a person to swim in! I bought this triple DVD set for my husband as part of his Christmas present not really thinking I would enjoy it. Wrong, from the first minutes I was well and truly hooked and sought out chances to see more. I would add here that I had intended to write this under the DVD ... Read the complete review

With the majority of this planet covered by sea it is still a wonder how little we know about what or who lives in the oceans. The Blue Planet television series took five years to make and in that time it took the programme makers all over the world to show us sights from the depths that most people have never seen before. Wild life programmes always take a lot of research, patience and time in order to capture the shots that are going to impress the viewing public. However this series has had a number of other issues that have never been faced by television producers before. The level of knowledge about the creatures that live in the oceans is very limited and ... Read the complete review

Every Wednesday at 9.00pm and repeated on a Sunday - The Blue Planet is the best by fer in the world of nature documentaries. So far we have had episodes on The Arctic, , The Tropical oceans, The Ocean Depths and The Tidal seas (I may have missed some and for that I apologise). Each episode is totally different and deals with a totally different area of marinelife. It is a great series, they go deeper, further, film for longer and return with better pictures than have ever been done before. The idea: --------- A nature show, narrated by Richard Attenborough (adds credibilitry to any nature show if you ask me) which deals exclusively with ... Read the complete review

This has got to be one of the most amazing and intreging programs on the tv at the moment! The sheer time and effort that has gone into filming these superb scenes, and most amazing real life accounts! Just think that some of these scenes, that seem so for out of the ordinary are actually just going on ever day of ever week of every year, out in the vast deep blue ocean! The second in the series where we saw some of the most outstanding creatures ever, that never in my wildest imagination would i ever come up with! Some with teeth that couldn't fit in their mouths, some with flashing blue lights and some with illuminations that could rival ... Read the complete review

I've long been a fan of nature programmes. I have many favourites over the years - the Wildlife on 1 about Meerkats, David Attenborough rolling around with Mountain Gorillas, that programme about Grizzly Bears and their tendancies towards kleptomania. So it was with some high expectations that I sat down to watch the first of a new nature series "5 years in the making" about the worlds seas and oceans - Blue Planet. To produce a good nature programme you need the following: 1) Quality photography 2) Good scenery 3) Interesting animals 4) David Attenborough narrating Blue Planet has all of these things. 1) The ...
