Advantages: Good for kids aged 1-3 and for interaction

Disadvantages: Limited in terms of age

Blue's Clues is a lovely kids' programme currently showing on a regular basis on the Nick Jr channel. For the past couple of years, my 4 year old son has enjoyed watching it on a regular basis, although I'd say it doesn't really hold his attention any more, so it's probably more suitable for kids up to his age.

The programme is presented by Kevin, a Liverpudlian presenter with a very soft spoken voice which he uses very well to speak to the kids at home to get them to join in the game. The game is to go through the programme with the character 'Blue', an animated character, as they search for clues to a puzzle. The real life acting of Kevin and his surroundings is mixed very well with the cartoon aspects of Blue and his friends and the environments he ends up in, and it is a testament to Kevin and the animators and creators of the show that the entire show is successful in retaining the attention of kids.

Blue is a dog, and actually retails as a toy. There is also a DVD released for the show, and the whole ensemble of the show is very good for kids. It's not the best out there by any means, but it is good for interaction with kids watching as opposed to them just watching the programme and not being able to get involved. I recommend it for kids up to the age of 3 or 4. Beyond that, they may lose interest, or rather, be more interested in other programmes. Until that age, though, it's a good one for them to watch, and will help them learn as well.

Summary: Good show for younger kids
