Advantages: Great for kids
Disadvantages: None really
Bob The Builder is a wonderful kids' TV programme that seems to be timeless. It has run for a few years now, and is still highly popular with kids now. The format has a figurine character named Bob, who is a builder, and his assistant Wendy, and a whole host of building machines, complete with faces and voices and minds of their own.
It gives a nice insight into the world of being a builder, as well as teaching kids about the differences between right and wrong. The machines include Scoop, Muck, Roley, Dizzy and Lofty, and include a digger, a crane and a cement mixer. Each episode follows Bob and his friends in the town of Bobsville as he goes around fixing things and helping the inhabitants out however he can.
My son loves this. He is 4 and has watched it for the last couple of years. He knows the theme tune off by heart, and has many of the books and DVDs that the TV show has spawned. Bob is voiced by Neil Morrisey, and occasionally there are special guest voice stars, such as Richard Briers, who voices Bob's dad when he appears in episodes. Each episode is normally around the ten minute mark in terms of length, but there are a number of feature length episodes, around the 50 minute mark, which are released on DVD. These include a couple of Christmas specials and one where Bob and his team go to the US to have a Wild West adventure.
I recommend this for your kids. It's entertaining and educational, and comes complete with moral lessons each time. Most of the episodes are released on DVD every now and then as well, so look out for these.
Summary: Great kids' TV show
