How to describe Boston Legal for those who have never seen it. The show comes from the same team that brought us Ally Macbeal so you should instantly know what kind of humour to expect from Boston Legal. We once again find ourselves guests in the litigation team of a Boston law firm - this time Crane, Poole and Schmidt. Denny Crane is played by William Shatner who creates a fantastic character of a once-brilliant lawyer who is entering his twilight years. He is convinced that he is suffering from Alzheimer's but is then convinced (mainly by himself) that it is indeed Mad Cow Disease - he affectionately blames any mistake on "the mad cow" and finishes almost every sentence with his own name - Denny Crane.

The protagonist, and Denny's best friend, is an associate at the firm called Allan Shaw. Allan has many personal issues but is a fantastic lawyer. We get the impression that Allan is now what Denny was back in the day. A string of hilarious cases find themselves on Allan's desk and he inevitably finds himself in a moral dilemma during his closing in the courtroom. There is more than a little political humour threaded through the writing but this adds to the overall feeling of the show and actually draws the viewer in deeper as we side either with Allan's liberal tendencies or veer off with Denny's hardline republicanism.

If you have not seen this show, you should immediately go out and by the first series and give it a go. At the moment, I think there have been five series released on DVD in the UK and each and every one of them is as good as the last. The writing is superb and I guarantee you will fall in love with every character for entirely different ways.

Summary: This is a brilliant show and should be known much more widely. Legal humour in a new way!
