Advantages: funny brittish

Disadvantages: crude vulgur and disgusting at times

Background

The series was written by Rik Mayall and Adrian Edmonson and was aired in the 90s by the BBC. Bottom ran for three series with a movie in 1999 (Guest House Paradiso) and a number of live comedy (Bottom Live) shows throughout the UK.

Plot

The story involves two bachelors torturing each other in disgusting, crude and brutal ways while inhabiting a rundown filthy flat in Hammersmith. Their antics usually end up with somebody behind thwacked in the pelvic region with a blunt instrument such as a baseball bat or frying pan or being poked in the eye. There are usually just the two characters that rarely leave the flat, though other characters pop in occasionally or are featured in episodes where they head out to the pub or in the Halloween episode.

Characters

Richie (aka Rik Mayall)- One of the primary bachelors, he wears his briefs halfway up his torso he has longish hair which he is constantly flipping back nervously and breaks out in hysterical laughter quite frequently. Richie is quite like the character Mayall played in the Young ones and seems like the wife of the duo and occasionally prances round in an apron. He appears to be quite camp but he does stop everything if he catches even a glimpse of a porn magazine or a naked lady.

Eddie (aka Adrian Edmondson) - The second of the primary characters, the butch of the bachelors he is attired in a hat and tweed trench coat most of the time is bald and wears glasses. He seems to be an alcoholic and also becomes like an older version of the character he played in the Young ones. Again he is a pervert, dishonest, rather gross and disgusting however he is a lot more sneaky and malicious than Richie and takes advantage of him quite regularly.

Other/ minor characters

Spud gun (Steve O'Donnell) - One of Eddie's friends appears to be as clueless as the two main characters has no real unique or interesting qualities it seems, he does think that Richie is a nut job however.

Dave Hedgehog (Christopher Ryan) - Rather small in stature and quite quiet his name matches his personality again he seems to fear Richie's psychotic behaviour.

Gas-They accidently beat up the gas man
Contest-The men put a bet on the miss world contest
