Advantages: Great entertainment

Disadvantages: The best ones often don't get through

Britain's Got Talent is a show that has been running for a couple of years now. It takes a similar format to other shows such as Pop Idol where the population are invited to audition to progress. While in Pop Idol and other such shows the talent is always a singing performance, what's different about Britain's Got Talent is that the talent could be anything entertaining. From dancing sheep to contortionists, dancers and of course singers, the talent is remarkable and sometimes cringeworthy.

The judges deciding whether or not each performance goes through in the early rounds are Simon Cowell, Piers Morgan and Amanda Holden. They seem fair on the whole, and Cowell seems more relaxed and less critical than in the other Idol shows. The later shows are voted for by the general public who can vote by phone or text.

Last year's winner was actually a singer - Paul Potts, who gave an amazing rendition of Nessun Dorma. This year's winner was a young lad who could breakdance and contort his body in an amzing fashion.

The prize for winning is £100,000 and a slot at the Royal Variety Performance. It is a wonderful prize that offers the chance for someone to showcase their talent, however weird or strange.

The show has now made it across the pond to the States, with Piers Morgan again one of the judges, the other two being Sharon Osborne and David Hasselhoff.

I agree with the devilinme, I watched the Best and Worst show last night and felt so sorry for the people who were brave enough to get on stage being humiliated and ridiculed. How the three 'professional' judges (Piers, Simon and that awful Amanda Holden) can blatently laugh and deliberately humiliate vulnerable people amazed me.
