Advantages: very entertaining as there are some terrible acts, and Simons facial expressions are priceless!

Disadvantages: I'm not too sure what Amanda and Piers bring to the show, and sometimes the crowd can be a bit harsh

Britains got talent is an ITV show from X-Factor creator Simon Cowell. Cowell has actually created a 'got talent' series globally, and the British version began after 'Americas Got Talent' finished.

The show is presented by Ant and Dec and it is a talent show, which, unlike the likes of the X-factor, doesn't limit the talent to merely singing. The show decided to open its doors to people of all ages and with all 'talents'- from dancing with their dogs, to breakdancing to fire eating-all sorts turn up for this show!

The idea is that the 'acts' come onto a stage (which is in various cities up and down the country) and perform their talent in front of a packed audience, and three judges; Simon Cowell, Amanda Holdren and Piers Morgan. Each judge has a buzzer in front of them, and when they've had enough of the act, they can press their buzzer, which causes a large red x to be lit up above their name. The act can continue performing until all three buzzers have been sounded, and are then given feedback. If they're not buzzed, they may be asked to come back to the next round of the competition.

From here, the acts who get through are called to London and it's decided whether they make the semi-finals or not. the semi-finals and finals are then broadcast live, with the public getting the opportunity to phone in and cast their vote. The winner of the show gets to perform their act at the Royal Variety show.

For those of you who like your X-Factor type shows, then this is definitely one for you-it's hilariously cringey in places, and quiet moving in other parts, when you hear peoples story (although thankfully they don't play on the 'sob' stories quite as much as they do on the X-Factor! It's fun as they show some people who are truely terrible and you get to hear the crowds reaction, which can sometimes be really harsh!

Ant and Dec are great presenters, as always, although I realise some people don't particularly like them, but they do a very good job in this show. I'm not completely sure about the choice of judges however-Simon is obviously great, but I do wonder why they chose Piers and Amanda-it almost seems like they had better people in place originally, but they pulled out, as it seems a bit strange to me to have them there.

Also, the so-called 'banter' between Piers and Simon is cringey as hell sometimes-Piers comes off with all sorts of random comments which really aren't funny, and its embarrassing in an 'uncle dancing at a wedding' type way!

Aside from this though, I find Britains Got Talent to be thoroughly enjoyable escapism and as it's only on our screens for a few weeks, we don't have to worry too much about it taking over our lives!

Summary: Great light entertainment

I'm not completely averse to this programme, but I do object to Piers Morgan (who has the personality of a tapeworm) having any input into who succeeds or fails. He's dreadful.
