Advantages: A wonderful show that has unearthed some spectacular talent
Disadvantages: Nothing major
Britain's Got Talent, a foregone conclusion. I am sure that Britain has a wealth of undiscovered talent that is just waiting to be discovered but last night the programme failed to unearth anything spectacular.
Last week-week one, our family was buzzing, after the show we all did a ring around to chat about Susan Boyle! Judging books by their covers is the first phrase that springs to mind, in fact just minutes after the show had ended we paid a visit to You Tube to watch her again, then a Free view channel repeated the show a while later and we felt compelled to listen to her for the third time!
Now it seems that the newspapers have predicted correctly and Susan could well be the Pauletta Potts of this seasons show.
Last night we were no less excited, the show kicked off and we eagerly awaited the next bunch of contestants. But last night Britain's Got Talent struggled in vain to come up with an act that was thrilling. Although the soprano saxophone player managed to give me a severe attack of the goosebumps, I thought his music was hauntingly beautiful.
Simon Cowell seemed to be well under par, his uninterested face spoke volumes and belied what he was thinking. Out of each show I am assuming that the judges have to choose so many contestants to go through to the next rounds and last night it seemed that Piers Morgan and Amanda Holden were clutching at proverbial straws, Simon was as brutally honest as ever and sent the duff acts on their way but a few of them were saved by Piers and Amanda.
After being treated to a parrot that refused to participate due to stage fright, a dog that howled to UB40 and a massive snake that languished around it's owners neck I was beginning to get restless. Don't get me wrong here, I am your number one animal act fan but animals just have to have something exceptional to offer the public.
Quite unexpectedly we were subjected to a rather large paunch ( in drag ) wiggling a heap of flab about and then deciding that his belly button needed to be cleaned out, a quick lick of his index finger seemed to do the trick. Pub or club after ten pints? Maybe laughable but it left me stone cold.
I am looking forward to reading the comments in the newspapers today, lets see what they made of the show last night.
The concept is unique if not brilliant, the judging panel gel well and having avidly followed the last series I full well know what to expect.
But last nights show was lack lustre, apart from that one musical act that made the earth move for me.
Maybe I should also mention the lad who was challenged by Simon Cowell, changed his song and was loudly applauded, but his name alludes me.
So last night after the show ended there were no excited family telephone call, no visits to You Tube. The question that hangs in the balance is `Have we been spoiled?`, the press and television has been constantly reporting on Susan Boyle. In America they are raving about her, so how are we going to follow that?!!
I am really interested to know what everyone else though of last nights show.
Summary: A well thought out idea.
