Advantages: Charming and fun

Disadvantages: Sob stories

Opportunity Knocks for the reality television generation. This is a tried and trusted formula allowing people of all ages and talents from all over the Uk to audition before three judges and a live audience, their prize if they are considered the most talented performer over a series of performances is to perform before the Queen and Duke of Edinburgh at the Royal Variety Performance.

The two previous winners have been the tenor, Paul Potts and the young break dancer, George Sampson, the programmes is shown on ITV on Saturday nights at 20:30 pm and is compulsive viewing.

The show is presented by Ant and Dec who calm nervous performers, laugh with or at ridiculous ones and narrate peoples journeys.

The judges are, former Daily Mirror editor, Piers Morgan, Actress Amanda Holden and Media mogul and professional judge, Simon Cowell.

The show is taken around the UK allowing as many people as possible to perform, the joy of the programmes is in seeing the most unlikely performers do well and in watching the British public be silly.

The programme is funny and has a heart, it is less intense than the Pop Idol Series and it is nice seeing older and younger performers given the chance, there are some great singers and dancers in the show, ranging from the unlikely Sarah Boyle to some amazing dance troupes, it can be let down by the sob stories occasionally but they have tried to cut that down, which is great!

Overall its fun family entertainment and well worth a watch, it won't change your life but you will choose your favourites and will them on to victory.
