Advantages: Fun, entertaining to watch

Disadvantages: The sob stories!

I have just finished watching another great show of Britains Got Talent and so I thought it was time to write a review and share my opinion about one of the highest rating shows on TV.

Britains Got Talent started three years ago as a show to try and find an act to perform in front of the Queen and the Royal Family at The Royal Variety Show. The shows format consists of each week showing various auditions that took place as different locations throughout the UK. These auditions are done in front of a live audience from the general public. These auditions are shown each week leading up to the final week which is the semi finals. The judges have to pick 30 acts from all the acts they have seen to go through to the five semi finals. Eight of these acts are shown every night and the audience has the vote on the act they want to go through. The act with the highest amounts of votes goes through and then the judges have to pick an act from the second and third acts with the highest votes. After all of the semi finals there is a final where the winner is chosen. The winner will recieve not only the chance to perform in front of the Queen but also a million pounds!

The first stage of the show with the auditions is very entertaining. There is a real mix of very good and very bad acts. There are of course auditions before the acts even get to stand in front of the judges so you know that the people who are bad have been picked for pure enterainment value. It does add something to the whole show though and makes it a lot more interesting to watch. The judges have the ability to buzz the contestants if they do not like the act and if the act gets three buzzers they have to stop. This is quite a novelty element as you can see when there is disagreement between the judges. For example that one hates it and the other two love it.

Before I go on any further I will talk to you briefly about the judges. The first judge is Simon Cowell, who you probably know from such shows as the X Factor and Pop Idol. He of course is the brains behind this whole thing and is reeping the benefits again. He tends to be the nasty judge but he is also the judge that always tells how it is. I do think he does have an eye for talent. Amanda Holden is the next judge. I am not sure how she got involved as she obviously hasn't been involved with anything like this before but it really works. There needs to be a female judge and she fits in perfectly. She is the sweetest out of all of them and tends to be nice to most people. She does have a soft spot for the young ones as well and you will often catch her crying. Piers Morgan, again I am not sure what kind of a judge he is for talent but it does work. He usually rubs up Simon the wrong way, and always seems to love the acts Simon hates.

The judges have the decisions to start with over who will go through. Sometimes you can tell that the act is amazing and the three judges all agree with the decision to put the act through. Sometimes the judges have a bit of a disagreement and only two of them want the act to go through. This can be quite entertaining to watch them bicker about acts. Probably not quite as entertaining for the act theirself.

One of the great things about Britains Got Talent is the fact that there are so many different types of acts. These acts vary from singers to dancers to magicians to ventriloquists so there is something for everyone to enjoy. The only problem is that the singers and dancers all seem to end up going through and not so many of the other acts. I think this is why they put a lot of different acts through to the semi final to keep it interesting.

There are two hosts on the show as well as the judges. These are the famous duo Ant and Dec. I think these two were the perfect choice for the show. They are nice to all the acts even when you know they don't really think they are that great. They make you laugh while they are backstage watching. They are very supportive especially to the young contestants to make them feel like they did well, which is nice to watch.

I like the way that on this show they do not seem to draw the results out quite as long as on other shows. On the X Factor for example you have to wiat about an hour for the results and it is very painful. This show gets to the point a lot quicker, which I am sure is much less painful for the contestants.

One negative of the show is the sob stories that they always seem to include. Every person who enters seems to have some sort of problem. They really milk this and try and get peoples sympathy. I think sometimes this can come away from the fact that it is a talent show and should be based on this and not because the person 'doesn't know what they would do if they didn't win'. I admit that I do still get dragged into these stories sometimes but I really don't think they are necessary.

Overall it is a really entertaining show. I like the way the semi finals are all in a week as it really gets people talking about it and a big buzz. I think that this show will keep on being successful for a couple more years to come.

Summary: A great family entertainment show

I love this show, great review. I think Amanda and Piers wind up Simon deliberately and I also hate the sob stories !

I don't really watch this, much to the disgust of most people lol. I know what you mean about the sob stories though, every show's got them and that's the main reason I can't be bothered with shows like this.
