Advantages: A mixture of talent/non-talent
Disadvantages: biased towards singers
When you consider how popular shows like Pop Idol and the X-Factor are, you realise just exactly why Britain's Got Talent is so good. Pop Idol and the like are just about a few good singers and hundreds of awful ones who want their 5 minutes of fame. With Britain's Got Talent you still get the few good singers but you also get a few good dancers, a few good musicians, a couple of good comedians and a lot of various other weird and wonderful acts. Of course, you also get the hundreds of hopeless ones who want their 5 minutes, but at least you get a variety of rubbish rather than bad singer after bad singer!
The dance routines this year have been brilliant yet again and you always seem to get a singer who looks very very normal and shy but their voice is amazing.
The downside to the program is the fact that the judges put through some of the rubbish acts to the semi final to just make the program more funny and controversial. I always think it's a shame on some of the genuine acts who do not make it to the next round due to this. Saying that, it is these weird acts that make the program very funny.
All the semi finalists seem to do well after the show anyway, as they soon get snapped up by various people and end up touring the country/world performing their acts.
I always think that Simon is biased towards the singers and I think Amanda and Piers have cottoned onto this fact as well, and have both made comments towards Simon regarding this.
The judges are also great. Piers is very funny, Amanda is beautiful and enthusiastic and Simon Cowell, well he's as he always is but maybe a little bit softer. Its obvious that the judges genuinely enjoy doing the show.
The program is aired on ITV1 and starts with shows on Saturday nights that show the auditions from around the country. After the auditions have finished, the program runs nightly with the Live semi-finals where 2 acts each night go through the Live final on Saturday night.
Summary: massively better than pop idol and x-factor

- 29/05/09 People put themselves up for it, so I think they are there to be given honest opinions by everyone. Saying that, the UK press are vile and can easily cause distress for contestents. I also think that friends and family could help by being honest with their opinions of their loved ones performances. |
