Advantages: Light hearted, fun
Disadvantages: Can be a bit cringe worthy in places
Britain's got talent runs on ITV. There is currently a series of shows running, culminating in the grand finale of the final which airs tonight (30.5.09)
I have never been a great fan of shows of this nature. I've never followed pop idol, x factor or anything similar. I find it all a bit boring and samey to be quite honest. I'm not sure how it has happened, but it seems I have become completely hooked on Britain's got talent! I can't wait for the final tonight.
In a nutshell, it's a talent contest to find the most talented person or group of people in Great Britain. Whatever your talent you can enter. If you win the contest the prize is £100,000 and you also get to perform for Her Majesty the Queen at the Royal Variety Performance. Many of you will know the story of Paul Potts who shot to fame after winning the first series. Paul was an undiscovered singer who worked at Car phone Warehouse. Needless to say, he has now given up the day job!
The series starts with rounds of regional auditions, some fantastic, some cringe worthy and some just hilarious. Entrants are whittled down until there is a week of semi finals and then a final. Acts are as varied as dancers, singers, jugglers, ventriloquists, mime artists, drag acts, escapologists, musicians, cover bands, magicians...the list is endless. The judges are Simon Cowell, Amanda Holden and Piers Morgan. The show ids presented by Ant and Dec.
Overall, I think this show is great family entertainment and well worth a look even if these types of shows aren't really your thing. You may get hooked, just like me!
Summary: Go on, give it a go!
