***ABOUT BRITAINS GOT TALENT***
I'm sure nearly everyone will have heard of or watched this show at some point. This show first hit our screen's in 2007 and was shown on ITV, and was presented by the fabulous Ant and Dec. The aim of this show is to find a suitable person with talent who can perform at the Royal Variety Show in front of the queen. Not only do they get the chance to perform in front of royalty but they also get to win a massive £100,000 as well.
The contestants have to perform their talent in front of an audience and in front of 3 judges whom will decide whether they should go through to the next round or not. (More about the judges shortly!).
Watching this programme for the last 3 years when it first hit our screen you will get to see hundred's on different acts which can include singing, dancing, stripping, juggling, playing instruments, dancing with dogs and other crazy ideas that people can think of. A lot of the people you see on this show haven't got a chance of going through the next round but that's what makes this show so enjoyable because you get to see lots of people at least try.
In 2007, we saw Paul Potts win the competition that sang a famous opera tune and wowed all the judges and the audience. He has since performed all over the world and released an album. Last year we saw George Sampson win the competition with his street dancing and he has now appeared in many musicals and stage performances.
***THE JUDGES***
There are 3 judges on the show which includes:
* Simon Cowell who most people probably know and have heard of. He tends to give the contestants his honest opinion and you often see him upset the contestants or making them angry. Although he does this he is a great judge on the show and I'm sure a lot of people will agree with me when I say I find him quite amusing.
* Amanda Holden is an English actress and is well known for being a judge on Britain's Got Talent. You will often see Amanda with tears in her eyes when she hears or see's someone with an amazing talent. Amanda is also a great judge on the show and likes to give people a 2nd chance to prove to the judging panel that they could be the person they are looking for.
* Piers Morgan is a presenter and former editor of the New of the World and the Daily Mirror. Pier's is a well known judge not only on this show but on America's Got Talent as well. Piers is my favourite judge and I find him highly amusing.
* Kelly Brook is a well known model and is also an actress and was only a judge on this show for about 3 shows, and then they decided that a 4th judge was unnecessary.
***THE CONTESTANTS***
This year we have seen many weird and wonderful acts. I personally think that some people just waste time by going on this show when they obviously have no talent at all. A few of these have included a group of 3 ladies who went on stage and just sat on chairs and knitted, another lady whom sang and her pet bird was meant to sing along with her but it didn't. We have also had some fantastic and amusing acts such as funny faces whom wore masks and changed their masks of celebrity people and did dancing, who I thought were highly amusing. Another favourite of mine was Stavros (father and son) who went through to the final who did some humorous dancing. We also saw men and woman stripping down to their undies shaking everything and all their bits on TV. . This of course piers and Simon enjoyed thoroughly!
***ELIMINATING CONTESTANTS***
The judges all have a red buzzer in front of them, which when pressed light's up an X at the top of the stage where the audience and the judges can see. When the buzzer is pressed it will also make a loud noise so the contestant knows they have been buzzed. After the contestant's have had their chance to prove their talent, the judges will have their say on whether they liked the act or not. If they get 2 no's off of a judge it means they are out, but if they get 3 yes's it means they will go through to the next round.
***THE FINAL AND SEMI FINALS***
As soon as all the contestants from all over the world have auditioned the judges then have a gruelling task of watching these act's again to compete in the semi finals. Again if the contestants are voted out they will not go through t the next round.
After the semi finals the judges then have to cut down the act's to their favourites where they will perform again in front of a live audience and the public will get the chance to vote on whom they want to stay in the competition and who they want to go. The act with the highest votes will automatically have a place in the final competition, and then the next act to go through to the final will have to be picked by the judges which are out of the next 2 most favourite acts voted for by the public.
***THE FINALS***
All the final acts must prove to the public they can win the competition by performing again in front of a live audience and the judges again. The act with the highest vote which is done by public vote (via phone) will be the winner of Britain's Got Talent 2009. This year we saw some great acts in the final which included:
* Susan Boyle who has been a huge hit on the internet not only here in the UK but worldwide as well. Susan is a 48yr old Scottish woman and has attracted the most media coverage than anyone else on the show. When she stood up in front of the judges and the audience and told them she was going to sing you could see the look on the judges face that they thought it was going to be awful but as she opened her mouth to sing the audience and judge's were just blown away at her fantastic voice as she sung 'I Dreamed A Dream'.
* Diversity who are a talented, fantastic street dance troupe, who first got together in 2007 and won the UK National Street Dance Competition. The dance troupe consists of 11 male members, 6 of which are brothers and the rest are close friends.
* Hollie Steel is a 10yr old girl who has been singing since the age of six and also attends a dance academy. All the judges thought this little girl was truly an amazing singer and she captured the hearts of many members of the public.
* Julian Smith played the saxophone on the show and wowed the judges and audience and even made Amanda cried when-ever he played. Julian is also a music teacher from Halesowen.
***THE WINNING ACT***
The act which won the competition this year was Diversity who was the dance troupe from London and Essex. I think this group were brilliant performers and never made one mistake through-out their performances on the show. Every-time they performed they did it brilliantly and they always wowed the judges.
It was hard to pick a favourite act this year as so many people deserved to have won this show; how-ever I'm not sure if some contributing facts towards some certain people on the show may have lost them votes for the final competition.
* Hollie Steel - I'm left wondering if little Hollie lost votes as she broke down in tears in the Semi Final and couldn't finish the song as she was so upset. But did she loose votes because she got a 2nd chance to sing the song again. Many of the other contestants on the show would not have been given this 2nd chance, so did she loose votes because of this. I know she is a very young girl and there is a lot of pressure due to the show but I don't think it's fair that she got a 2nd chance to perform.
* Susan Boyle was in the newspaper a few weeks ago for losing her cool and swearing and storming out of the hotel because 2 journalists wouldn't stop harassing her. Susan was left distressed after being taunted by the 2 reporters. Could this have sparked the public not to vote for her because of this out-burst and the fact that she has had so much publicity already? Even though she didn't make the final she will still be well known all over the world and will be just as popular as she was before she lost the competition to winners Diversity.
***OVERALL OPINION***
Obviously there is a lot of pressure on every contestant who applies for the show and who make it to the final. We saw how little 10yr old Hollie reacted to the pressure and the audience when she broke down in tears with nerves on one of the shows. After the final show Susan became emotionally drained and was taken to a private health clinic where she was being treated for exhaustion and it was suggested by her GP that she take a few days out to rest and recover. A lot of papers have also mentioned that after the final's show and losing to dance troupe Diversity she got angry back-stage and started shouting, how-ever there are reports that this is not true. Susan has how-ever now left the clinic and is much happier and more like herself again.
I think there is a lot of pressure on the people on this show, especially the younger contestants. This is obviously the chance in a life-time and they only have 1 chance of proving themselves to the public and I imagine the pressure must be tremendous. This was a fantastic show this year and I look forwards to next year's show! Britain does have some great talent, but on other hand it also has some very bad talent which isn't even worth auditioning for!

Summary: Contestants get the chance to show Britain whether they have a special talent or not.

- 08/06/09 I agree re Hollie Steel. I did see the clip of her being "upset" I think it was a temper tantrum I saw no actual tears. If she really wants a career as an entertainer (which I think is unlikely)she had better get used to rejection and being stopped half way through a song. Not too nice but the way things are done. Good review. |
