Disadvantages: Unbelievable

Now I want this to be no offence to Scousers on here. Im sure there are many.
Brookside is doing the great city of Liverpool no good whatsoever.
It is portaying even middle-class suburbia to be full of corruption,incest, theft, gang warfare and murder to be average everyday occurences on Merseyside.
Yes I know its a soap. yes I know its not true but it does not paint a very true picture of real life does it?
I always thought the idea of a soap was to set it in its normal surroundings and watch as a story unfolds.
Do as many people die in your local 6 House cul-de-sac as they do in Brookie?
Are there as many drug related incidents as there are in Brookie?
No.
And do you know why?
They have to make it more interesting.
God knows why they take such drastic steps along the "shock therapy" path.
They have come very close to the limit with some storylines.
Lets look back at what they have tackled in recent years.
Lesbianism.
Nothing wrong with it if it wets your whistle but it was seen as a very bold statement when that kiss took place between Beth Jordash (Anna Friel) and another cast member.
Incest has been handled twice.
First with Beth Jordash again! with her father who was taking advantage of her.
Second time around was between fully consenting brother and sister pair Nat and georgia!
Making you sick yet?
There is more to come....
Then there was the "dead father under the patio" storyline that had horrible flashes of "Fred West" about it. Again the Jordashes were involved and went to prison.
Then there has been the many deaths.
In recent Years, say over the last 5, there has been....
Susanna Farnham.
Matthew and Emily Farnham.
The father of the chadwick family.
Little Jimmy Corkhill.
Katies Boyfriend who was shot by Ron Dixon.
Thats 6 I can remember and im sure there are others who's names I cant remember.

Other st
iff storylines have been the rape of Nikki Chadwick after a date rape pill was dropped in her drink at a party,
The gangland pursuit of Linsey Corkhill and her nightclub entrepreneurial skills.
The surrogacy of Jackie Dixon for Max and Susanah Farnham.

Do these things go on in your neghbourhood?
No. They dont. Maybe one of the things I have mentioned has been heard of somewhere in your town once but now all in the same street within 5 years of each other.

True, it does help people affected by these crimes in real life ask for help from people that can help them such as councillors but it is very unrealistic.

One other thing that bothers me is the "skitso" characters that appear.
The show is written by several different writers and they dont seem to talk about their character's personas.
Hence, when the show is filmed, a character can be nice as pie one day and then competely pychotic the next!

Very bad continuity from the scriptwriters.

Still, I still end up watching it.
And dont you think Emily Chadwick looks like he girl that was in Atomic Kitten that left o have a baby?
