Advantages: Funny, scary, witty. The theme tune.

Disadvantages: There always seems to be a secret tomb somewhere containing the ultimate evil.

Worth watching for the make-up alone. They seem to come up with more and more hideous monsters every week. I’m 22 and sometimes I get a bit scared watching it. No, don’t laugh. It’s perfectly natural.

The humour comes from the snappy one-liners that every teen programme must have nowadays apart from, it seems, Roswell High. Buffy is the Chosen One, and is doomed to rid the neighbourhood of every demon, vampire and nasty thing that is attracted to Sunnydale.

She is ably backed up by her mates, Xander, Willow, Oz and Cordelia (who must be one of the oldest teenagers to walk those high school halls since 90210). Giles or Mr. Giles to the parents, looks after Buffy and teaches her the very funky high kicks she uses to dispatch vampires. Sarah Michelle Gellar is one energetic lady.

The programme has taken a while to settle down since it moved to College, but the episode with the fussy roommate (who turned out to be a demon) was a winner. The recurrence of Anya, an ex-demon and Spike the mockney vampire look set to keep the interest alive.

Buffy is hard. Watch her.

Grr. Aargh.
