Advantages: very distinctive advertising
Disadvantages: Not shown recently
I don't know if they give out the equivalent of Oscars for adverts but if they did I think this would have won one.
This is an amazing advert - how anyone came up with idea I will never know. The idea is so totally off the wall. Why on earth would a gorilla decide to play "in the air tonight" which was originally made famous by Phil Collins of course. He is a very distinctive drummer anyway and to be portrayed as a gorilla must be very odd indeed. The gorilla is very human but does retain that bit of apeness about him that you don't immediate go "oh its a man in a gorilla suit"
The advertising is very subtle you tend to kewep watching just to see what they are advertising because the images that it is portraying do not make much sense, advertising drums? advertising Gorillas?
However even though the gorilla doesn't end up eating a bar of chocolate - that would be just too cliched I don't think that there are many people once they have seen this advert will ever forget that it is for Cadbury's dairy milk - in the same way that most people tend to know that "it takes a glass and a half of milk"!
This was the advert that really sparked people's imagination and was a hot topic of conversation for many. It is a very long advert when it is played in its entirety as it plays the whole song and as a track it builds very cleverly.
This was certainly the best of the series made at the time - the planes didn't really do it for me with the queen soundtrack and those children in the latest one are just plain creepy.
Summary: A fantastic advert that appeals to all age ranges
