Castaway is the next stage in the continuing attempt to interest us in the lives of people we wouldn't look twice at on the street. We are supposed to be interested this time in a bunch of individuals, and sometimes their families, that have volunteered to live on a remote island with no contact with the rest of civilization except the cameramen and when some of them get sick or when a few of them sneak off the island to the mainland for groceries. It's such a stupid idea that even the participants themselves can't stand it-- seven have left the show prematurely already. If the show creators wanted my attemtion they would have set it on a tropical island and set tasks like opening coconuts with your head. At least treat a stupid idea stupidly, and perhaps the concept becomes bearable.
