What on earth is going on in Taransay??
Having watched last night's episode, I come away with the impression that they are all slowly turning slightly bonkers!
As the remaining 'survivors' reach month 9, we watch with a certain degree of pleasure as things appear to go from bad to worse.
A rogue delivery of whisky to the island has split the camp into 2 groups - those who think that it should be left untouched, and those who think it should be cracked open on the spot. Stemming from this, new laws are put in place, forbidding anybody from making contact with anyone/anything from off the island. One poor women, whose brother turns up unannounced and who she hasn't seen for years, is put 'on trial' for breaking these rules!! Her punishment, ironing and sewing for the group for a week - what is happening to these guys?? The group is adamant - she must carry out her punishment!
The second piece of nonsense appears with the Seventh Day Adventist family up in arms about being made to feel unwanted by the group. They are in a difficult position, however one begs the question, what are they doing there in the first place? Their very lifestyle puts them apart, and merely contributes toward the general bad feeling among the group. Racist comments are bandied about, as well as homophobic ones toward Ron, the token homosexual.
Peter, the intellectual hippy lecturer is the third person to fall foul of the continuing tension. He is accused of being too intellectually superior to the rest, and as a result has made several members feel insecure. He is more or less lynched for this, and while he does come across as an intellectual snob, he no way deserves the stick which is being levelled at him!
In a nutshell, quite entertaining television, however the continued over-cheery presence of Picture editor Ben Fogle and his 'thoroughly nice chap' routine is wearing a little thin...is he ever going t
o put a foot wrong?
