Advantages: good story line
Disadvantages: used to predictable
Based in Holby City, I do not watch this that much. However, I did watch the two part episodes last week, which were about a gay nurse (Adam) who was HIV positive, and how the media got caught on about his condition. It was a real eye opener, showed the story from the nurses point of view. He was a very talented nurse, and did is job well, but in the eyes of the media that did not matter. He ended up leaving his post, as the situation became impossible to work in, not only for himself but also for his colleagues. Adam, the nurse was sympathetically drawn, and I am sure it must have made people aware that HIV positive is different from AIDS. And that you can’t catch HIV by touching someone as generally believed. I, couldn’t believe how good the story line was. There were some really funny bits, with this drunken woman, who fancies ‘Charlie’, she ended up giving birth and calling the baby ‘Charlie’. The nurses and doctors are really good, it seems like a really good place to work in. Of course, they try to make it realistic as possible, and like the real NHS, it has bed shortages, doctors and nurses are over-worked, and all the other general problems, that any institution faces. The reason I don’t watch this, is because I used to think all you had to do was guess which one was going to die, or get injured. Which was a bit sad. But, from what I have seen, the story line seems much more interesting, it tackles real issues, rather than having a hospital, which is perfectly run, it seems more realistic. You can watch ‘Casualty’ on BBC 1 on Saturday at around 8pm. Good to watch if your not going out.
