Advantages: Was good, spin off Holby City

Disadvantages: All been done before after so long

Casualty is the BBC's supremely popular hospital drama, one that has run for over a decade and it has even spawned a spin off series, Holby City.

Casualty success was well deserved, it was a good original show and it combined realistic medical situations with the lives of doctors well, but after all this time it has simply run out of steam. It seems that after all these years everything has already been done, there is nothing new for the writers to write so they repeat the same storylines over and over again. We all know that when we see someone at the start of the show some bizare accident is going to render them dead or serioulsy injured, its not hard to forsee which doctors and nurses are going to get it together, and barring the HIV Adam story there has been nothing new in this series whatsoever.

It is sad, because I used to look forward to seeing Casualty every Saturday night, in the last few series I never missed at episode (or at least taped them) but it just seems that this year the magic has gone, that special edge just is not there when I watch it. Doctors and nurses change, patients die or live but it just feels like Ive seen it all before, many times.

Hope is on the horizon though, Holby City, the aforementioned spin off series seems to be doing well, and despite the hospital setting its different ward and people etc. seem to working well and original story lines make this as good as Casualty was, so maybe this will soon be the flagship saturday night hospital show.
