Casualty is a BBC drama which airs on Saturday nights, usually around 8 or 9pm. Ever since it was first shown in the mid 1980s, each 50 minute episode has focused on the staff and patients of the Accident & Emergency department of the fictional Holby City Hospital.

What makes this medical drama different to some others is that you get to see the lead-up to the particular accidents and emergencies and gain a bit of insight into the patients' characters and lives. It's fun to try and guess what the accident is going to be in advance - e.g. is a car going to crash into someone, will a pillar fall down and land on them, or will they slice their hand off with their power tool ... ?! Also heavily featured are the personal lives of the staff members, ranging from management staff to porters. I think it's these personal elements that keep Casualty feeling 'real'.

The storylines overall are often quite intense and the accidents and emergencies are generally quite dramatic. It's quite possible to dip into a series of Casualty without having seen an episode before and be able to pick up quickly who's who, but there are also ongoing story lines which you will appreciate more as a series regular.

I do enjoy Casualty and have watched it for many years - Saturday nights just wouldn't be Saturday nights without it!

Summary: Casualty is an exciting medical drama, essential viewing for Saturday nights!
