Advantages: OK if you want a no-brain experience,

Disadvantages: Boring and a waste of license payers money. Cheap rubbish.

Big Brother began in 2000 and the housemates for the season have changed with each series. It started off with ordinary people being pushed together and asked to perform certain tasks. There were evictions and challenges to get through until the winner was decided, and then it developed into a celebrity version.

This has to be one the worst, 'no-brain' cheap shows ever made for television. The whole idea is to get a number of celebrities, make them live in a house together and humiliate them. The camera just records what happens.

This is just titillating rubbish for those with voyeuristic tendencies. For a start, the whole idea of the show is a non starter. How can you put a collection of celebrities into a house to live together and expect them to live normally? There's a contradiction in terms somewhere here, because most of these people live far from normal lives anyway. (Whatever normal is.) From time to time the contestants are subjected to humiliating tasks like dancing in thong leotards and tights, for example. This is staged to make them look ridiculous and in my opinion is not entertaining.

Celebrities like Jade Goodie, Ulrika Johnson, and Coolio have taken part in the show and recent winners include Shilpa Shetti, Ulrika Johnson, and Chantelle Houghton.

There has been a lot of publicity around this programme and that is what it is basically about. Celebrities are just behaving badly and showing off to the world. Take Jade Goody who was only famous because of her boorish behaviour on the show and the boring Ulrika Johnson who should have won a special prize for celebrity most likely to put us all to sleep.

As you can probably tell, I really don't like this show. I have seen odd bits of it, so I feel I am qualified to have an opinion, and I appreciate that this is a very popular show as far as TV viewing figures are concerned, but I personally think it's cheap rubbish with hardly any entertainment value.

There are far too many of these voyeuristic programs being made and being fed to us.

Summary: Poor programming by BBC. They have enough money from lioenses and should product better quality TV
