Advantages: so bad it was good

Disadvantages: Too much MDF

WHAT IS IT ABOUT:
Two couples re-decorate each-other's houses with the help of cutting edge design experts such as Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen. Hosted by Carol Smilie, the show more often than not changed an ordinary house into a hideous house, thanks to the MDF cutting skills of Handy Andy. The show was on the BBC and lasted half an hour.

IS IT ANY GOOD:
Dear oh dear, how the hell is this on Dooyoo? I mean, what a crappy yet ultimately addictive show this was. It was great for a few reasons:
1) There were some (and I mean SOME) good design tips on here - now before you shoot me down, there were occasional good ideas on how to spruce up a piece of furniture or something, and they were learnt here.

2) There were some terrible terrible re-decorations on here - Old Laurence Llewelyn Bowen was clearly on meth amphetamine for some of the shows, and the multi-coloured, MDF infested, impractical re-designs looked like the set of Willy Wonka's Chocolate Factory. It was great fun to watch the unveiling of someone's new house, and the ultimate breaking of relationships between friends!

The main thing I remember about the show is how they used so much MDF - it was like re-decorating for under £10, and it was BAD! Do you remember the show when they smashed that woman's collection of teapots or whatever it was? Ooh that was painful.

For something much better, try the American show 'Extreme Makeover Home Edition', in which they spend tens of thousands on a similar idea, with no MDF in sight. Again, the US do a better job than us, but it's much more interesting to watch.

IN CONCLUSION:
The show that spawned a hundred DIY game-shows, Changing Rooms created often terrible designs, but boy was it fun to watch!

Summary: great fun!

Remember all those paint effects - ragging, stippling, chucking sand in the paint....does anyone know anyone who did this? And I bet the sales or tile and cupboard paint have plummeted since it's been off air.
