Advantages: magic, potions, good beating evils sexy ass (ok, not always sexy)
Disadvantages: it ended!
Three sisters discover they are witches when odd things start to happen to them after the death of their grandmother.
Pru (Shannon Doherty), Piper (Holly Marie Combs) and Phoebe Halliwell(Alyssa Milano) are Charmed. Three magic sisters that fight evil, day in, day out.
I actually caught this show fairly early on, around series 2, on Living TV some years ago. As with all the great shows, the channel re-ran the earlier series, so I can honestly say I've seen every show Charmed have done. And am a HUGE fan.
Re-watching the early series now, shows how improved the effects became! Series 1-3 were the Pru years. The focus seemed to be on her more than the other two, which is not so good, but then I'm not a fan of Shannon Doherty who played her (always found her a bit wooden and emotion less)
The end of series three saw a big battle, leaving two of the sisters, Pru and Piper, seriously injured and the watcher was left wondering if either would survive. The off screen reason for the end of series 3 was Doherty - she quit and the makers wasn't sure if the network would commission another series without her. They did, and in came Paige, played by Rose McGowen - a long lost half sister the other two knew nothing about.
From that point on, the show got bigger and better. Until the bigwigs decided to cut costs and brought about the end of the show. They cut a main character in Leo (Piper's hubby, and the sisters white lighter (angel guide)) so the writers threw in the biggest battle ever - with the whole series leading up to it. And man! It didn't disappoint!
Series 8 also brough us Billie, a charge of half-white lighter Paige (Her mother was the sisters mother, but her father was the white lighter. They felt they had to give her up for adoption for her own safety as that type of union wasn't allowed back then, and the demons would've been after her). It does make you wonder what Billie is adding to the story, along with the search for her sister who was snatched when they were children, but it does all become clear before the last two-episodes.
When the show finished, it was like losing a piece of your childhood - life would never be the same again. After eight years, it was a loss!
If you like the magical type of drama show, this one is a must! It's not just magic and potion and vanquishings, there is love and heartbreak and laughter thrown in - just like everyday life then really
Summary: Make your life Charmed - watch this show
