Children In Need

Description: Yearly appeal for children on BBC1.

Newest Review: ... celebs to do something different and 'hilarious'. The worst thing I have ever seen on Children In Need was The Holby City cast singing 'Like a Virgin' - honestly, it was the worst thing that has ever been shown on TV since John Logie Baird's first broadcast. Then there is the endless 'stories' that are repeated every fifteen minutes that show kids in wheelchairs and sleeping on the streets ... more

... sniffing glue. Why do we have to pay for these things to be sorted? Leave it to the charities and let me watch 'Have I Got News For You' without having to miss it for a week! Car crash telly it certainly is, especially when they go out to the regions ...more

Premium Review Children In Need: Entertainment at its Absolute Worst (487 words)

Children In Need is an annual event that comes around far too quickly for my liking. The basic concept of the show is an evening of 'entertainment' interspersed with appeals for money. Throughout the day children will have mufti days at school and shave their heads all in the name of charity. I'm sure Children in Need does a huge amount of good across the country every year and they've managed to get a load of chavs out of poverty. However, as entertainment it truly is the dirtiest skidmark on the sleeve of the BBC. How can they possibly churn out the same old rubbish year on year? For hours on end one Friday every November this rubbish comes on. ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review An extremely worthy charity (365 words)

It never ceases to amaze me at people's generosity, and how the human race can come together at any time to show can unified it can be. One of the main ways in which this happens is charity, and Children In Need is one of the biggest charities in the country, and certainly one of the most advertised and celebrated (if that is the right word) charities we have. Each year, Terry Wogan adopts his usual roguish pose and nuances as he takes to the stage at 7pm for an entire evening of entertainment, documentaries and pledging to raise as much money as possible for the deprived children in today's society. It touches me how many children are left wanting at the end ...  Read the complete review

I must be getting a little soft in my old age but I found myself crying at this years Children in Need. There seems to have been two major stories in the news this week about children being killed by their own parents. I think it is great that a programme such as Children in Need can help children enjoy a better life. The true life stories are gentle reminder to some of us that life is precious and that we should enjoy what we have and appreciate everything around us. The children shown on the videos are so brave and are a true inspiration. Children in Need started in 20 years as a radio program and has come such a long way since raising over £460 ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Children in need- Do you support it?? (593 words)

Well 'children in need' night looms upon once again, so i wonder what frolics celebrities will get up to tonight, to try and make the nation pledge as much money as they can for various children's charities?? Children in need has been existent since way back in 1927, when at first it was a 5 minute radio slot on christmas day. It wasn't until 1955 when it first became televised and known as the Children's Hour Christmas Appeal', presented by Sooty and Harry Corbett. The radio appeal was still being held right up until 1980. When then it became a telethon on the BBC, hosted by Terry wogan, Sue Lawley and Esther Rantzen. It captured the public's imagination to ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Children In Need: Give, give, give! (390 words)

Children in need has come a long way since its 5 minute radio show in the 1920`s when they used to raise amounts around the few thousand mark. Nowadays the funds raised are in their millions with last year seeing 37 million raised for this excellent charity. The TV show started out more than 20 years ago and is still going strong although I feel it has gone downhill a bit in very recent years. It is great to see all the TV personalities come together and work for one night free to help raise cash for the children in need charity but it seems the shows organisers are running out of ideas for the show. Having two kids of my own these days I am even ...  Read the complete review
