I must be getting a little soft in my old age but I found myself crying at this years Children in Need. There seems to have been two major stories in the news this week about children being killed by their own parents. I think it is great that a programme such as Children in Need can help children enjoy a better life.

The true life stories are gentle reminder to some of us that life is precious and that we should enjoy what we have and appreciate everything around us. The children shown on the videos are so brave and are a true inspiration.

Children in Need started in 20 years as a radio program and has come such a long way since raising over £460 Million! Last year a third of the total 37 Million was earned during the broadcast from viewer contributions and it is so easy to see why. The true life stories, shorts acts, musical performances and comical short clips encourage viewers to part with their cash. An event so well publicised as this usually results in people in work, schools and clubs donating money throughout the previous weeks from organised events.

This years show is no different and with the regular presenters Terry Wogan and Ferne Cotton. They are al;so joined by Tess Daley In fact Terry Wogan was the first presenter on the first televised show in 1978 2 years ago.

So far I have enjoyed the show but must say one of my favourite clips has to be that of the Coronation street cast and Gok Wan.This clip was simply amazing -

I laughed so much as the clip with Becky --- Ricccckay - oh no that was Ginger Bird. As well as the subtle additions such as Pudsey being stitched in Underworld. I also loved the bit with Gok and the naked cast "oh me dear, no dear - how very dare you". Absolutely wonderful.

As usual Eastenders will be up there completing and its hard to chose a favourite. The musical compilation 'Diamonds are Girls best Friend' was hilarious. It was great to see a serious guy like Max singing in a tux. Ricky and Bianca in 'My Fair Lady' was also very good, it fit the east end so well. In fact the clip captured the personalities of the whole cast so well unlike Coronation Street the whole Eastenders Cast was involved. The Saturday Night Fever clip was also very good; the scenery was used to their advantage. Oh and Ben - what a great dancer! The Beales as the cast of Mary Poppins was also great, a childhood favourite of mine will never be the same again. The Massoods were brilliant! Loved it well done Eastenders - I loved it!

As well as the professional displays its great to see the live link up to the local fundraisers to see what has happened in my local area. It's nice to see if we can spot people. It has been mentioned several times that despite the economic situation in England people are still digging deep and the show is still raining a credible amount of money. Only half way through the show they have already announced that the 10,000,000 has been met and exceeded. This is more than was raised last year at this point in time.


I always look forward to Children in Need night as I can sit in with a glass of wine and be entertained. I always support Children in Need as I believe it is such a worthy cause. When all is said and done the true life stories demonstrate what the event is all about and if it can help so many children in need it's a great cause.
