Advantages: Everything

Disadvantages: Nothing

It never ceases to amaze me at people's generosity, and how the human race can come together at any time to show can unified it can be. One of the main ways in which this happens is charity, and Children In Need is one of the biggest charities in the country, and certainly one of the most advertised and celebrated (if that is the right word) charities we have.

Each year, Terry Wogan adopts his usual roguish pose and nuances as he takes to the stage at 7pm for an entire evening of entertainment, documentaries and pledging to raise as much money as possible for the deprived children in today's society. It touches me how many children are left wanting at the end of each day, and it touches me even more to see how many millions of pounds this country is prepared to give up to support its future generations.

This year's entertainment was as good as it always is, with the most current musicians, actors and other celebs chipping in by donating their services either to perform or to man the phones or to go round the country collecting money for Children In Need, and this year's marathon programme, which lasted until 2am, collected even more than last year.

When you equate this with the fact that we as a country are experiencing financial downtimes, it shows even more the good nature of us as a nation, and it makes me proud to be British. Charity raising is a highly commendable thing to do at the best and at the worst of times, and this year, Children In Need was more than just a welcome fundraiser for deprived children. It was also a reminder that no matter the hard times, someone may be worse off than we are, and to appreciate what we have got, and to spare whatever we cna for the needy.

I salute charities such as Children In Need, and the way it brings the comnmunity together for such a worthy cause. Raising over 20 million pounds in one night is spectacular, and long may it continue to exceed itself year upon year.

Summary: Great charity and wonderful bringing together of the community
