CHiPsNewest Review: ... imagery would probably give a Psychology PhD student an attack of the screaming vapours. And yes, CHiPs did start out as a comedy. The first episode had an alarmingly unfunny Jon falls in a glue slick session. They soon realised it was better to be unintentionally funny instead. I would not recommend watching this programme to anyone with an IQ over single digits, UNLESS... you remember it from first time round and want to see it for the nostalgia. Utterly awful, but Jon and Ponch offered a whole new definition of cool. ... more |

Bet you didn't know it started as a comedy? CHiPs was the staple diet of Sunday early evening TV viewing in our home for several years in the late 70s and early 80s. With its regular offerings of cool cat cops on bikes showing up the ponderousness of the enormous, un-aerodynamic US cop cars, which would invariably slide into one another at sharp corners and roadblocks or fly through the air with the grace of an overweight hippo and end up on their rooves. When I was younger I used to love watching chips (california highway patrol), the series was centred around the motorbike division with the main characters who's names I can't remember been two very good looking guys. Wearing what I can only compare to jodphurs as they go about their policing duties, i'm sorry girls but I still have fond memories of the programme even now. Repeats are often shown on the older sky channels. If anyone can help me with the names i'd be grateful especially the hunk with the latin looks. ... Read the complete review
