ChucklevisionNewest Review: ... This show had a lot more to it than I'd previously thought. For those completely unfamiliar with Chucklevision, it's a children's television programme about two brothers, Paul & Barry Chuckle (played by real-life brothers Paul & Barry Elliot), who make a living doing various odd jobs. Both are particularly clumsy & stupid, & most of the comedy comes from their innocent mistakes causing lots of trouble for other people. The show was first broadcast in 1987 & is still going. In the first of the two episodes I saw, the brothers were called to a lady's house to do a plumbing job, but ended up discovering a giant ma... more |

If you'd asked me about Chucklevision a few days ago, I'd have said it was a show I sometimes watched as a child, but found a bit boring & too silly, & it was never one of my favourites. As far as I could remember, the Chuckle brothers basically spent most of the time carrying round a ladder/plank of wood/sheet of glass & saying "To me! To you! To me again!", & generally breaking things & falling over. I was very surprised, then, when I happened to watch 2 episodes of the programme this weekend, for the first time in at least 10 years. When it first came on I thought "Oh no, not Chucklevision, that'll just be really boring ... Read the complete review

Many moons ago, The Chuckle Brothers burst onto our screens and brought with them one of the most iconic phrases in comedy. 'To Me To You' cannot be said without their cheeky faces popping into your head. It has to be said that they have had real staying power and are still a permanent fixture on BBC children's television. The Chuckle Brothers hark back to an era of comedy long gone. Its Les Dawson, its Benny Hill, its Freddie Starr and then it's a bit of Russ Abbott and Cannon and Ball too. Its comedy that is obviously 'old school' in every sense of the word. Theres no irony or knowing winks to the camera saying 'this is crap and we know it' - everything is ... Read the complete review

Chucklevision has been on British TV since 1987 and was always a firm favourite of mine when growing up in the early 90's. The episodes features brothers Paul & Barry Chuckle and each episode usually has it's own independant storyline which sees the brothers taking on a task or job such as fixing something, paintwork, mechanical work etc and they are regularly getting in to mishaps or slacking off which always leads to some form of disaster or them being told off by 'No Slacking'. Barry & Paul both have very different personalities with Paul being the 'ideas man' and Barry being the 'fall out man' who regularly takes the blame for mishaps ... Read the complete review

My sons favourite program and one that I really detest! It's all about the Chuckle brothers - Paul and Barry who are both as daft as each other. The program always starts with them having a job to do and are always making clumsy mistakes for example dropping a paint of tin on their heads or standing on a paint tin. One of the funniest programs had one of the chuckle brothers painted like a statue and all you saw were these big bright eyes in amongst a grey man! One of the most annoying parts of the program is the annoying catch phrase to me, to you which my son copies for about an hour afterwards! Don't get me wrong most of the programs are really funny ... WHAT IS IT ABOUT: This BBC kids show has been running for over twenty years, and features Barry and Paul Chuckle, two brothers who gets themselves into all sorts of slapstick scenarios when working on a particular job together. IS IT ANY GOOD: It's mind-blowing to think these two guys are still going strong, and good on them! The show is a very simple, basic one, but kids seem to love it (I know I used to). At the heart of its success comes the way children find it fun to see adults make lots of clumsy mistakes; perhaps on some level they feel encouraged with their own inadequacies, and relieved it's not only them that can make a fool of ...
