Newest Review: ... to make cuddly toys from for the thirty- and forty-somethings that may have enjoyed watching the TV programme back in the day. The clangers are little long nosed creatures, like mice, who live on the moon - well to be more precise, they live under the surface of the moon. They enter their moon abodes through dustbin lids They live peaceful lives and feed on blue string pudding, and green soup collected by the soup dragon. The storylines revolve around the notion of curiosity, so from a child's point of view the use of empathy is apparent. The clangers don't talk! It would seem that only the producers of children's programmes understand th... more

The Clangers have certainly carved a little niche in the early 21st century - at least for the manufacturers of tacky gift goods that end up at the car boot sale. Their 'cuddle-ability' has made them a prime target for obtaining the rights to make cuddly toys from for the thirty- and forty-somethings that may have enjoyed watching the TV programme back in the day. Premium Review thank you Oliver Postgate - you'll be missed (272 words)

I was so sad to hear on the news this morning that Oliver Postgate died last night so I'd like to dedicate this review to him with my thanks. His contribution to children's TV in the 1970s onwards included the inventions of lovely programmes including Bagpuss & Noggin the Nog - but my favourite were the knitted mice who chatted in their unique flutey, whistley language in space - known as the Clangers. Their friend was the Soup Dragon & the Clangers lived on blue string soup - for any of you who haven't seen the series please have a look for the little characters as I've never seen anything like them before or since. The stories ...  Read the complete review

The Clangers The clangers are a timeless, enduring and charming animated series. The complete Clangers is a 2 disc DVD set containing all 26 episodes of the classic television series. The clangers is about life on the small blue planet, somewhere out in space, that is home to these long-nosed, gentle, pink creatures with their distinctive whistling language. They live under the surface of the planet in caves which are enclosed by saucepan lids--the slamming of which gives them their name. Life is simple when you're a clanger; with plentiful green soup and blue-string pudding to eat, the main worry is being hit by objects from space. Fortunately, ...  Read the complete review

I was born too late to see the Clangers when they first appeared - they whistled and warbled their way through the early 1970s whereas Morgenhund first appeared in 1977 - or PC5 (that's the fifth year of the Post Clangers era!). Conspiracy theorists might try and make out that the Clangers were the intended filming of the moon landing - indeed there is a moon landing episode, although the flag is a joint US/USSR flag - curiouser and curiouser... A total of 26 episodes were made, each episode being a five minute stopmotion animation affair, with the stars being made of a metal skeleton covered with foam and with a woolly "skin", pipe cleaner hands ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Clangers, The: clanger classic ! (381 words)
by - written on 07/06/01 (Very useful, 230 readings)
Rating:

The Clangers is a classic childrens TV programme from the 1970's, which ranks way up there with the other totally surreal childrens series such as The Magic Roundabout, Trapdoor & Roobarb & Custard! However, The Clangers simply beats the others in view of its totally bizzarre, yet completely cute nature. The Clangers are a group of pink, mouse/elephant like cuddly creatures that live on a planet far far away. They communicate through a haunting whistling / hooting piping sound, which has the tenor of deep mexican pan-pipes. No words are spoken, although there is a sonorous voice over from a deep mellow male voice that narrates and comments on the activities ...  Read the complete review
