This TV show was a spin off from the very successful film of the same name, some of the actors who played major roles in the film also appeared in some of the episodes of the TV series however Alicia Silverstone was replaced by Rachel Blanchard in the lead role of Cher Horowitz who is a rich girl living in Beverly Hills with her workaholic father. Cher is a really popular girl at her very posh, image conscious school. Image is everything so plenty of plastic surgery, latest fashion accessories and intrigue over being seen to be popular.


One of the main actors from the film Stacy Dash who plays her best friend Dionne is in the show as are a few others performers. Some of these characters are made a bit more extreme than they were in the film in order to make them fit in with the need to generate more laughs in a TV comedy format and the usual teen issues cropped up in the storylines.

The acting in this is a cut above some other such teen comedies however the heavy moralising let it down a bit in my opinion but then that is a general problem with a lot of American comedy dramas from that era and before. It did have its funny moments however the comedy could be a bit forced at times and designed to appeal to teenage girls more than any other group.

Overall there are a lot worse imports but it is no match for the film.
