Advantages: Interesting, funny

Disadvantages: Preferred the older format

I love Come Dine With Me. I first discovered it on a Sunday afternoon when I was hungover and needed some light TV. It is repeated on More 4 on a Sunday. It used to be daytime TV but it got so popular that it is on Channel 4 now and has just moved to 8pm on a Friday (premium viewing!).

The format has changed as well. It used be set over 5 nights (with 5 contestants), and the programme was on for 1/2 an hour a day. This has changed to a one hour slot and it is over 4 nights with 4 contestants. I preferred the older format as you got to see a lot more of the preparatory work and this could be hilarious.

Each contestant has to cook a meal each night and the other contestants rate them out of 10. At the end of the week, the person with the highest vote wins £1000.

The reason I like it so much is because they usually seem to match or mis-match people, so you usually get a reserved person, a loud person etc etc, and that means that they usually clash. When the guests arrive they also get a chance to snoop around the other persons house and see what hidden secrets they have. On one show, a woman kept a car bonnet in her bathroom!

Some people have immaculate houses and other people, well their house is a complete shambles! I have seen episodes where the guests were asked to dress up and a woman came in her wedding dress as it was the only thing she had. There was also another show where the lady got the restaurant across the road to cook the food and they were passing it through the window while the other unsuspecting guests were about 10 feet away!

Come Dine With Me is a great opportunity to delve into the lives and homes of the British public and to see what happens when a piece of beef burns, or when someone gets drunk and starts having a go at another contestant.

It is great psychology!

Summary: Great entertainment on a Friday night/Sunday afternoon!

I saw the early series but feel it was just drunk members of the public on telly. The Resturant was more my thing.
