Advantages: you see the dishes being cooked and you can get the recipes

Disadvantages: some contestants are quite rude, others can't cook for toffee

This is a sort of reality programme for foodies. It is shown on Channel 4 and also on several freeview channels - I can't give more details as it changes so often, best to check the t.v. listings book.

So what is it all about ?
Five people who have never met each other (but who live fairly locally to each other - same town -), get together each evening over the space of a week. They take it in turns to cook what they think will be a winning menu. A starter, main course and pudding. They then score each other out of 10 for their food and hosting skills. Whoever has the most points at the end of the week wins £1000.

So what about the contestants - are they real foodies or do they just want to be on t.v. ?
To be honest I would say a bit of both.
To make 'good telly' they do try to get a wide mix of people. From the very straight laced who only have a small sherry at Christmas and don't cook anything more adventurous than a boiled potato, right through to the complete nut cases who, get drunk on their hosting night, drop food on the floor - but still serve it, forget to cook a complete course, and there was one lady who actually went for a sleep upstairs whilst her guest were downstairs waiting to be fed - I kid you not, it really happened.

Is it always like that ?
Thankfully no !
Most of the programmes are really good. People talk about their love of food and how they chose and put together the menu that they did. You get to see them cook the dishes and see the dinner party itself. Everyone is interviewed in private so the comments are sometimes very blunt if the host has messed things up.
Some contestants are quite rude but generally the love of food comes through. It is great trying to guess who will win.

Any extra's ?
Yes, most of the recipes appear on the website - channel 4 - come dine with me. So if there are any dishes you fancy making you have the chance.

Is it worth watching ?
Yes.
It is a good programme with varied menu's that you can try and there are a few surprises and laughes along the way. Good entertainment.

Summary: good entertainment, good t.v. for foodies
