Advantages: This show is class

Disadvantages: None

For quite some time I have been a secret fan of Come Dine with Me and have now decided it is time to come out of the closet!

The new series currently going out at 5:30 pm on a weeknight on Channel 4 is the very best one yet. The variety of people it features is outstanding. These range from the 'snobby foodies' to the 'ordinary working mum' to the 'single people who haven't a clue how to cook' to the 'I am a super cook and how dare you not find my food the most delicious you have ever eaten'.

The format is deceptively simple, with 5 strangers being flung together to cook a meal and host a dinner party for each other. Each night they visit one house where the host must entertain and cook for his or her fellow contestants.

There is a variety of food types and some of the expressions on the other contestants faces when they try to establish exactly what 'roasted banana laced with vin and a creme compote' is are hilarious! Coupled to this is the acerbic voice over by Dave Lamb. The lines he comes up with are fantastic, tinged with just the right amount of sarcasm to not be offensive, yet hilarious at the same time.

At the end of each evening the contestants (or guests as the show calls them) rate the evening and the food. This usually takes place in the taxi as each guest makes their way back to their home. Each guest has usually consumed a usually copious amount of alcohol, and then the points are awarded. Some times the guest will amend their score the next day - providing a raft of different excuses for the poor / too high previous evenings score.

At the end of the week the last host gets to do the 'big reveal'. This is where the £1000 prize money is brought in on a silver (plated!) serving platter and displayed in a lovingly arranged fan in front of everyone. The tension then mounts as the host reads out the results. "5th place goes to ...... 4th place goes to..... 3rd place goes to..... 2nd place goes to ....." and then the all important winner is announced.

For the very finest in voyeuristic television watch the expressions on the faces of the other non winning contestants! It is difficult to hide the disappointment in some faces and sometimes it even looks like pure outrage as they feel they have been robbed!

The overall feel of the show is quite relaxed and it can be enjoyed by all the family as there is no bad language or anything else which could be considered not suitable for children to watch. In fact, I have 9 year old twins who love the show and absolutely hate it if the timing clashes with when we are having our evening meal as it means they can't watch it!

Often at the weekend Channel 4 will show repeats of previous shows and sometimes they even do a celebrity version - if you ever see one of these advertised I heartily recommend that you watch it. There is no difference in the facial expressions or behaviour from the usual constestants!

Summary: No finer reality tv show was ever made!
