Advantages: Lovely tales for kids
Disadvantages: Limited number of episodes made
Come Outside is a lovely and soothing programme on CBeebies which is both educational and entertaining for children of most ages. It has a lovely theme tune and features the adventures of a lady and her dog. My son loves watching it. In fact, I would go so far as to say that he is transfixed whenever it is on.
Each episode is roughly 15 minutes long, and features Aunt Mabel and her dog, Pippin. Mabel has a spotty aeroplane which they use to travel around the country, visiting farms, schools, parks, etc, to see how things are done and how we can make a difference and learn new things each time. It's quite amusing to see the two of them in the plane each time, although I am sure they don't actually fly around for each episode.
The show is more educational than anything else, but the star of the show is undoubtedly Pippin, and this is probably the appeal for many of the younger viewers. Such an adorable dog sells the show on his own! Each story normally sees Pippin getting up to some form of mischief, and Mabel will usually accompany it with a melodic song to sum up their adventure.
There is another programme, Come Inside, which features one of the regular CBeebies presenters. It is a spin off of the show and features normally around this time of year, in the autumn and the winter, to show us what happens inside places when it's cold and not such nice weather. Come Outside seems to only have a handful of episodes made, and it is well over 10 years old now. Still, the magic remains, and it is a lovely show to watch for kids of all ages.
Summary: Lovely adventure that is educational for kids
