Advantages: Can sometimes be entertaining

Disadvantages: Not that funny anymore

I am going to be honest form the start . I think that Coronation Street has gone downhill recently. As a northener I have always watched Corrie. My Grandma watched the first episode that aired on 9th December 1960 and then watched it until the day she died. My Mum therefore was brought up watching it, so I was too.

I used to love watching it, but now not that much so. After over 7000 episodes the storylines are getting repeated nad a little far-fetched and those that do interest me seem to drag on for ages until I get a little fed up of them.

Heres for the formal bit- Coronation Street is a soap opera that started on the 9th December 160, on ITV1. The soap, created by Tony Warren is set in the fictional area of Weatherfield, Manchester. It remains as one of the longest running T.V. programmes and also one of ITVs' most popular programmes. More than 1000 regular characters have appeared in the soap over the past 49 years and only a few of the originals remain
Each episode is approx 25 minutes long excluding breaks and there are 5 episodes broadcast a week. On Mondays and Fridays there are 2 episodes shown (one at 7:30pm and the other at 8:30pm) and one episode on Wednesday starting at 7:30pm. Figures show that on average the show receives around 8.5-12.5 million viewers, a fair share of T.V viewers. All episodes are repeated on ITV2 and on the online player which can fetch upto 4 million extra viewers for the show. These figures prove that the show is popular contrary to my opinion.

I do have to admit that I do watch Coronation Street every week and I do find some of it entertaining but over the past year I haven't found that happening much. I used to love characters like Steve, Roy, Becky and some of the others really funny. But recently I don't find them making me laugh very often. The only characters that continue to do so are Norris and Blanche.

Over the past year I don't think that any storylines have been outstanding or very memorable. Meaning that I am not so bothered if I miss an episode anymore.

I am probably one of the only people who is a little bored of Coronation Street at the moment but I am going to carry on watching it in hope that I will like it more in the future.

Summary: Not at it's best currently
