Coronation first aired in the Uk in december 1960, its set in a fictional place in Greater Manchester called weatherfield it airs here on Mondays and Friday at 730pm and 830pm and fridays at 730.

Coronation street is to me quite an old fashioned soap with some rather old fashioned and boring characters. First I come to Emily Bishop, I really don't see much point to her character she does no big storylines and just appears giving her religious opinion now and again or taking in a new lodger. Emily bishop has been in it for years so they either want to keep her in for tradition and values or are to scared to get rid of her?

Ken barlow he is another one he has apperaed in it for years he was in the very first episode. Either love him or hate him he has had a few good storylines like his affair with Denise the hairdresser I really didn't know he had it in him, in the soap now it looks as though he could embark on another affair lets wait and see and to be honest who can blame him. Deidre his on screen wife have been on and off for years amid his and her affairs. If you watch corrie take a look at her neck when she cries it is gross!

Betty ( i dont even know what her last name is ) she to has been in it for a years and works in the rovers and is famous for her hot pots, is this all they sell in the rovers? give it up Betty you need to be more than just hot pot.

Gail Platt ( Gail no chin )she is a character who in my eyes spends the whole time moaning and fighting with David, it gets a bit boring after a while its the same old thing. He does something wrong, they fall out and argue about and then she ends up falling for his lies, they make up and are then mother and son of the year.

Rita and Norris, they both run the shop their characters to are a little outdated and spend most of their time gossiping in the cabin or eating Betty's hot pots. Although Rita has had some good storylines in the past like when she married Alan Bradley and she suffered phycolgical abuse from him and he ended up dead under a tram. This was a good storyline and made everyone who watched absolutely hate him. So Rita has done well in her time but im afraid a bit of a washout now.

What is it with coronation street with its old cast? they need to bring some new younger characters to give it a bit of life, get rid of the old and bring in the new. It does have some young characters but again they really arent that interesting. You have David Platt who has had some good story's like when he nearly killed Gail and lied about it but then again is his character realistic? how many sons would do that to their mother?
Tyrone he's another one to me doesn't really do much infact i cant even think of an interesting storyline he's been in?
Then there is the websters two girls Rosie and sophie all I used to remember of them is them going up to their rooms and playing tapes!
The character I do really like at the moment is Becky to me she is fab, really fiesty, on the outside she looks like she does'nt give a s*** but deep down she is quite a caring and loveable character her bond with Hayley and Roy is great. Hayley and Roy are quite unrealistic characters to me, Roy being the geek loving trains and walking around with his shopping bag. Hayley being the transexual who married Roy, come on is this realistic? could they not have come up with something better? But then is this why so many watch corrie is it habit or that it does take you out of reality and makes your life seem normal?

The other thing that gets me about coronation street is they all work within The street, the Rovers, the cafe the hairdressers, the cabin devs shop and the factory is this really what happens are they not allowed out of the street?
They all are always in the Rovers, at lunchtime, after work and in the evening. Are they all alcoholics, when the girls from the factory have their hot pot at lunchtime they all have a good drink and go back to the factory to work with machinery? safe I think not!

If there is any ever a function from birthday to hen night to wedding its always in the Rovers with a few sandwiches is it a real good deal there or is it written that when you move to the street you have to hold all functions in the Rovers?

Another thing that always gets to me is that thy all have their dining/kitchen tables in the middle of their lounge and sit round them?. I often wonder why they don't sit comfortably on a sofa is it a northern thing?

There has been some great landlords and landlady's in my opinion Bet Lynch has to be the best a total mutton dressed as lamb but she was straight talking and to the point. Her charcater was great and you were always guaranteed a laugh when she was around.

Corrie has had lads of storylines like murder, abuse, drugs, alcoholism but to be honest in my view it was better way back and think maybe its reached its time. Unlike some of the other soaps like Eastenders it doesn't give you on the edge of your seat viewing. Its characters are old and so are its storylines they need to get some more young blood and more interesting story's.

Summary: great in its prime a bit stale now

If you are unsure of facts, do a bit of research to give all the right info.
