Advantages: great entertainment
Disadvantages: none
My secret is out... I cannot function without my regular doses of Corrie. I hated it as a child, when my mum drooled over it! Now I'm a huge fan, as are the rest of the family. The characters are great. There really is someone for everyone either to love or hate. Or even love TO hate. I think Jack and Vera are great. A brilliant comedy duo. I also like Curly & Emma, and Ashley cracks me up with that voice of his. I HATE Ken Barlow. I know he's not real, but I can't help thinking he's such a patronizing git! As for Linda Baldwin - what a slapper! Corrie used to be a real lightweigth, sticking to the comic, light-hearted edge of life, but lately it's been giving us a few more realistic topics to get our teeth into - like teenage pregnancy and rape. But by far, one of the best storylines on British soaps of late has been the losing battle of Alma versus cancer. I've always liked Alma, especially the way she dealt with that cad Mike! Amanda Barrie has acted her socks off in the last few weeks. She became so much a part of our lifes that we talked about her amongst our family and friends as though she were a real person. I thought that the script-writers gave her some great material. Keeping her illness to herself because she didn't want her final weeks to be filled with pity. Her final moments were so moving. I bawled my eyes out when poor Audrey gor back from London too late to say goodbye. I tuned in last night for the funeral. As soon as Audrey began reading 'Do not stand at my grave and weep', I was gone. My daughter and husband even shed a tear or two. I was just getting myself composed again when that video was played. I kept waiting for her to say goodbye to me!!!! (well, maybe not). It was a great way for such a good character to leave the show. None of this falling under a Blackpool tram rubbish for ou
r Alma! I hope the script-writers keep it up. Corrie is great, I hope it's around for another 40 years.

- 16/05/03 The saddest thing about Alma's farewell was that it was only her that went!!! Coronation Street is PURE pantomime, the acting is AWFUL..the scripts VERY poor...
The reason that Ken Roache is still in the 'show' is that, unlike Eastenders, when an 'actor' (and I use that term VERY loosely) leaves the 'panto' he/she disappears onto the dole queue. |

- 22/06/01 Alma dying wasn't sad, it was that video thing that brought a tear to the eye for me!! Have to admit, don't watch it, but did just take a peek at the wake....morbid or what?? |
