Advantages: A few old characters, worth following
Disadvantages: Too much young blood and modern problems
I'm in my thirties, so hardly a die-hard Corrie fan, but even I find that the events of the last few months has completed changed the series. They've sacked many of the older actors/actresses and replaced them with new, very young characters. I can appreciate their need for modern story lines, but in Corrie.. it's not necessary. I don't want to view a soap which surrounds itself with modern day horrors such as drugs, but would happily tune in, seven nights per week, to a soap addressing typical (but "nice") family life. I think modern life is difficult enough and would like to simply "escape" in my evening viewing rather than see a repeat of the news in soap form. I'm fed up with the ins and outs of adultery, teenage pregnancy (and birth) etc. and would welcome a return to the older Coronation Street where there were many more moralistically oriented characters. Perhaps I'm boring, perhaps not.. their ratings have dropped. I also watch Brookside.. which is the forerunner to the new Corrie, but bearable, as Brookside has always been this way. I think that Coronation Street, if it were restored to it's former glory, would cut most other soaps from the market.
