Great for getting involved, the way TV should be (Countdown)

Advantages: Tests your intelligence and mental arithmatic

Disadvantages: Can be annoying seeing these words you've never heard of!

Countdown is a game show where contestants are faced with 3 challenges.

1) "Vowel please Carol": The contestants take it in turns to pick a certain amount of letters, choosing whether to pick a vowel or contestant at a time. Once the letters have been drawn, the two contestants have to beat the clock to see who can make the biggest word.

2) Maths challenge: Similar to the first challenge, but picking a series of numbers. They're then given a random number (not necessarily possible to match) and they need to show their calculations how to get to that number using the numbers they have been provided with. Again, against the clock, closest to the number wins.

3) Conundrum! The final game where a word is scrambled and then revealed to the contestants. The first to correctly state what the word is gets the points!

It's a great show, but I do feel it has somewhat diminished since the departure of Carol,

Having been the icon of the show for many years, having a make-over and becoming somewhat totty, helped pull in more than the average viewer!

It's a great show for testing your mind, especially the conundrum. I've found this show has helped mental logic and I thoroughly enjoy the mathematical challenges, usually getting very close indeed!

It's one of these shows where you feel rewarded for beating the contestant and viewers can actually get involved rather than just watching some witty person answer, I have a personal friend how appeared on the show who said it was a real pleasure to meet the cast and crew.

I've applied to appear on countdown several times but not yet been lucky enough, how do you guys find it during the break, do you get the conundrum in time?
